Need to stay in Paris for a MONTH - help
Hi folks

I have to stay in Paris for about a month starting January 2000. I am looking for the cheapest possible place to stay but have no clue how to find one. Hotels are obviously too expensive. Someone mentioned Hostels. One or two said you can't stay more than a few nights. What about staying with a family as a "paying guest" .... is that possible? I will be doing some work at Bichat Hospital so ideally the place should be close to the hospital but not necessary (I'm told that public transport in Paris is very good).

Any ideas, suggestions would be great

Thanks

Fahim

Fahim,
Why not contact the Hospital itself - talk to someone in the department where you will be going and/or administration. It is possible they can help you out, I'm sure they have had others who worked temporarily at the hospital and needed lodgings.

Hi Fahim:

Try www.paris-anglo.com, it's a website run by and for the English-speaking community/students/professionals living and working in Paris. I believe they have a bulletin board with listings of lodgings and also a section on how to find accommodations in Paris. I think it will be useful for you. Good luck!

Hi Fahim.

My advice for you is to contact the different churches in Paris, they all have sort of big board with advertisements about everything from room rent to best-buy etc.

A lot of parisiens are looking for part-timers, who ie.x are willing to use 15hours a week to pick-up children or walk their dog etc. In return one get a room "for free". Normally these small advertisements are posted in the foreign churches.

Sanne

Thank you all for your replies. I looked through several websites including Paris-anglo.com and haven't really found anything. There are a bunch of hostels available but hostels have their downsides and are really for students. You mentioned contacting churches .... HOW do I find them ??

Once again, thanks for the help

Fahim

Fahim,

Is this Hopital Claude Bernard-Bichat you're talking about? (170, boulevard Ney in the 18th?) - - I got this from www.sante.gouv.fr - - anyhow, I found one property (F1000/12L) on www.interhome.com but it's probably more money than you want to spend ($467 USD per week). Moreover, the listing is unclear what is the exact location of the apartment - - it retrieves this one and only property regardless of what arrondissment you put into their search engine.

I agree that the hospital itself ought to be able to provide you major assistance - - good grief, for the first few days, there ought to be a call room or something right in the hospital you can use.

P.S. I can't recall ever having a visitor here from Pakistan before (but I'm not an oldtimer like some other semi-"regulars" here) - - so welcome, and enjoy Paris? Are you a medical student? resident physician? pursuing training in what?

Feel free to write me - - I love Paris and all of France.

Best wishes... et bonne annee!

Rex

Whoops - - I didn't finish scrollling down through the list of "hits" on bichat on Yahoo - - here's an apartment that may much be more affordable - - prices from 1450 to 2700 FF/wk - - apparently there are multiple apartments of varying sizes):

www.holiday-net.com/france/9201Jones.htm

Sounds promising, if you really do have to find something on your own.

There are 'apartments/hotels' in Paris that go by the name Citadienne. I stayed in one near the Montparnasse area right next door to a hospital there where my friend was having heart surgery. They had a big discount for us because we had a patient at the hospital. The neighborhood was great - plenty of shops for food and supplies right outside the door. The apartment had all the dishes we needed, it was extremely clean, quiet, and they had studio, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. We had the apartment for over a month. I can check my things to find the contact info of The Citadienne apartments if you would like more information. Good Luck

For some reason, I was under the (mistaken) impression that someone had already mentioned the Citadines to you.

www.citadines.com

http://www.citadines.com/htdocs/paris-fra.html

also try Office de Tourisme de Paris. They have a guide called "Paris Users Guide" with many apartments and aparthotels listed by arrondissement. Their web site is: http://www.paris-france.org/parisweb/
