Need tips on Barcelona
I'm traveling to barcelona in three weeks and i need a little advice about what others have enjoyed seeing and doing there, as well as what hotels or pencions you know of. Any information on nearby locations that would be worth seeing is also welcomed. We will be there for 10 days and are thinking about trying to get to the south of france, or other spanish cities.

Hi Kerry!

I posted a long trip report (very anal!) which includes what we enjoyed and so on during our trip not too long ago.

If you enter "hotel lleo" into the search engine it will come up.

Let me know if I can answer any questions which arise from it, and I will do my best.

I LOVED Barcelona... absolutely loved it!

Hi Jorge

The Hotel Lleo was fine but nothing special. I left it kind of late to book, and so I was restricted in choice, especially as I wanted to book it through work, to get a better rate, and so the choice for me was limited.

I thought the location was absolutely ideal.

Breakfast was fine, pleasant, generous.

The rooms were comfortable but very very dull, though they wre clean, good size, and nice bathrooms with decent showers.

That's all I remember.

Kavey

Please let me know here or via email if you have any other questions I can help with.

Kerry, I posted a trip report on Barcelona last Spring. Search on Ger and it should come up. Beg, borrow or steal the book "BarcelonaWalks" for the best tour book I personally have every read - walking tours. It is out of print, so you may not find it in a bookstore but your library system may have it. Alternatively, Barnes & Noble still had it last May.

WONDERFUL city, I loved it. Have a great time.

Regards ... Ger

Hi Ger and Kerry,
You can purchase BarcelonaWalks (and MadridWalks) directly from the author himself at
www.georgesemler.com

He wrote the Catalunya section of Fodor's Spain, the entire Fodor's Barcelona to Bilbao and also the Languedoc-Roussillon chapter of Fodor's France. He's an absolute treasure trove of information on Spain, particularly Catalunya and the Pyrennes and is now working on Fodor's Andalucia.

Be sure to spend a few hours strolling at La Boqueria St Josep! One of the world's greatest markets, right off La Rambla by the opera house. Got some of the best photos I've ever shot there...Gorgeous produce and fish, and gorgeous Spaniards selling it! Plan on eating your way through the place... plenty of the stalls have counters where you can grab a stool, sit down with the locals and order up a plate of food... ask for the proprietor's recommendation about what's best that day and let them prepare a plate for you. Spectacular! The freshest, tastiest seafood I've ever had in my life! Our hotel was nearby and our last day in Barcelona we headed over one more time so we could pack up a cooler full of goodies before motoring down the coast.
