Need Saline Spray for Trip!!

Hi Everyone!.

I will be travelling to Berlin via Heathrow airport August 23rd. I need the saline nose spray to breathe. Will I have a problem taking it on the plane with me even if I have a doctor's note?

Thanks
Denise

Yes you will have a problem. Is there any way you can avoid going through Heathrow? Alternatively, is there any way you can do without during the trip-in other words, improvise by getting a bottle of spring water on the flight, and using that instead? I've done that, and it works quite well.

You can get prescription sprays - they would be OK. Otherwise no liquids of any sort.

Den, I'm really not sure TSA will allow you to bring on saline spray-saline solution is specifically prohibited. AND that might not be viewed as medically critical. You REALLY need to call TSA at your departure airport-you need to contact the TSA Federal Security Director's Office, AHEAD OF TIME and speak with one of the Assistant Directors, explain about the prescription saline solution-and take their advice.

Simply having a doctor's prescription for commercially available spray will not, in my opinion, be permissible, UNLESS there is a prescription label attached to the bottle, accompanied by a doctor's prescription.

At any rate, if you are intent on taking it, I would call TSA and discuss it with them.

What is to stop a person taking a bottle with a prescription label on it, or a doctor's note, from putting in a banned substance?

Nothing. That's why I say it's highly doubtful that any type of solution, particularly saline, will be permitted.

Empty your spray bottle and take it on board Refill it with water there and add salt, either some you take with you or that you get with a meal. It may not be quite the same, but it should help.

Wow, Underhill! Of course! You are a genius and have solved a problem for me. Thanks so much! Wish I had thought of it.

Here's a "recipe" from WebMD: You can buy saline nose drops (such as Ocean or Salinex) at a pharmacy, or you can make your own saline solution by mixing 1 tsp (5 g) of table salt in 1 pint (473.2 ml) of water and adding a pinch of baking soda. Your health professional may recommend a different strength of salt, baking soda, and water. Use the saline solution at body temperature.

Just reduce the amounts of salt and water proportionally to fill your little container.

And Thank YOU, Betsy, for the recipe. I hope there will be no problem taking salt or baking soda on board!

On another subject, drugstore.com has assorted body wipes...if those will be allowed.

Yahoo just reported a few hours ago that 4oz of OTC liquid meds will be allowed so hopefully Saline Spray is available in a 4oz bottle, I don't know as I don't use it.

Removal of shoes will now be mandatory at the security checkin.
