Can anyone recommend a hotel or B&B in central Rome for a reasonable price, aiming for 100 - 150 EURO / night, or up to 150 -200$ / night. Would love to be around Piazza Navona or Trevi but may not be realistic in this price range. Clean. A/C. Thanks!

How long are you staying? If more than a couple nights you might want to consider an apartment - more space and often less expensive.
We stayed at Smeraldo on our first trip to Rome and enjoyed it, however the rooms are small and I've read some less than favorable reviews since then. http://www.smeraldoroma.com/inglese/hotel.htm

We do prefer apartments and for our upcoming trip, we're staying at this apartment for 125 Euro per night...however, we're staying a week which lowered the rate somewhat. http://www.vrbo.com/108288

I just noticed you want AC...expect to pay more, and not all hotels with AC have individually controlled units. If that's important make sure you know what type of AC the hotel has.

We stayed at Residenza San Panteleo several years ago. It's very well located between Piazza Navoni and Campo de Fiori. Some rooms are large, some are small. It's clean and simple. On the down side, the breakfast was pretty minimal, and the manager was not very communicative.

Hello Gidlaurie, you could try AGV 2001 Bed & Breakfast, website www.agv2001.it - in the Vatican area, and certainly well under the rates you were mentioning. Rooms with en-suite bathroom, a/c, wi-fi. Owner on site, very communicative, unlike the one referred to in the previous entry. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas! I've never done bidding on Priceline, might look into that. We are only staying 2 nights so an apartment seems less suitable. Welcome more ideas!!

I think Hotel Sonya is in your price range - it is near Termini so makes it convenient if you are coming or going by train. The main sights and many restaurants within walking distance. You might want to check out www.venere.com for more ideas - you can search by price and area of the city, plus there are reviews posted along with the properties. IMO the B&B in the Vatican area is quite a ways from the sights you mention.

I don't know if it's still in your price range, but I love the Hotel Modiglianai, very centrally located but on a quiet street and with exceptionally nice staff.
