Need passport at hotel checkin in Italy? My names don't match!

HI,
I have not changed my maiden name on my passport, but all my hotel reservations are made in my married name which match my credit card. Is this a big deal? I have my marriage lic and driv lic just in case.
Fortunately, my airline ticket was the biggest thing to match!

It's not a big deal; no one cares whether the name on the passport matches the name on the credit card.

All the hotel cares about is that one of your identities is going to pay for the room.

The hotel doesn't care if you're married to the person you're staying with (never mind the married couples with different last names). If they did about a third of the people in europe would have no hotels to stay in.

They just need to know you're you so they can register you with the police. And that you have a CC to pay with.

FYI, Hotels may not care but now AA is telling me that if I don't change the name on my tickets to exactly match the name on my passport they can no longer give me my FF miles. At work, I still go by my maiden name but passport shows my hyphenated name, and I travel a lot for business. What a pain.

Your passport MUST match your airline tickets for security purposes--there's never been a debate about that.

As NYT said, they're just using the passport to register you with the police, a legal requirement in Italy, and chances are will never see your passport and credit card at the same time.

In Spain we don't have a married name..we use our maiden names (we have two, first from the father and first from the mother) forever
