need Madrid hotel suggestions

We have just found a great (??) last minute airfare to Madrid for the end of January. I don't have a lot of time to research hotels and need to make a quick decision. Any suggestions on hotels and central locations, 3-4 star, and close to public transport. A big thanks in advance!

The end of January is going to be expensive because of FITUR 2008 the rather large International Tourism Trade Fair which runs from Jan. 30 - Feb. 03. You may get lucky, but expect to pay a little more than usual.

Try www.solmelia.com - good luck, although from what Robert says, it may be tough. We liked Tryp Cibeles, which we booked on the Sol Melia site.

I loved my stay in a suite at the Hotel Room Mate Alicia, on the Plaza Santa Ana.

Lots of good suggestions in Maribel's Guide, at www.maribelsguides.com.
