Need lodging near Milan airport (Malpensa) for 1 night
Well my husband FINALLY has enough delta miles so we are going to bring our girls to italy next September (we strangely have a week off then..guess I won't complain!) They will be 7,9 and 13.
We are going to be renting an apartment in Lucca for 4 nights (already booked)
Then on to a farmhouse outside of Orvieto for 4 nights (booked too..can you tell I'm excited?!?)
Our flight leaves at 1 pm on a Saturday so plan on leaving Orvieto Friday and staying somewhere close to the airport. I would love to find somewhere that isn't a boring hotel. Since our flight isn't until 1 pm I think we can stay somewhere a little bit from the airport (within reason of course since I know we have to get there early for our flight) Our flight back has a stop in NY (going to Italy is non stop...saves 80,000 miles by doing it that way..and Milan is the only airport we can afford to fly to unfortunately)
We will have a car btw.
Any ideas for a place to stay the night before we leave?
Thank you

Do you have any interest in seeing Milan? You could turn in the car in Orvieto and take the train to Milan. (The train ride and the drive would take about the same amount of time, 5 hours.) You'd have a couple of hours to see the Duomo or The Last Supper (reservations required) and then a nice, final dinner to end your trip. It would take about an hour on Saturday morning to get to Malpensa either by bus or train.
Either way, for us to give helpful hotel recommendations, we need to know what you want to spend.

Thanks Jean! I think with the girls it may be easier to keep the car..plus we can do some stops along the way and take our time getting to Milan.
I would say at most €175 for the night. The tricky part is having 5 for a room :/ (thanks for that reminder for the price

I like the First Hotel, but your flight is not that early to make an airport hotel a must. Like Maggiore is not that far away and you could spend a night there, with plenty of time to drive to Malpensa and drop the car in the morning. We have an 8 am flight back to CA in May, so we will stay at the First the night before.
