Need help with trenitalia

Help!!!!

I am trying to book a night train from rome to venice on 14 October 2006. I was hoping to book the 45 euro fare or at the most the 60 euro fare for a double sleeper (2 bed compartment)for two people. Is this possible? I can not obtain any of the promotional fares or even the standard fare. Any idea what is going on? I keep getting the following message:

"We are sorry but the travel solution requested is not available."

What can I do? Is there any way to contact trenitalia outside italy?

I had no problem entering the information and getting rates for those dates.

I'm not sure why you would want to do this. This night train (ICN)leaves from Tiburtina (not Termini) which is a pretty seedy station. Even with the discount rate, you will still be paying around 100E for the 2 of you and I doubt you will get much sleep since travel time is only 6 1/2 hours. I would take a day train (ES - 4 1/2 hours)from Termini and try for a 29E rate.

Hi

Still getting the same message. It happens after I enter the information and then log in. I was hoping to book the overnight to save on accomodation costs.

Just tired the last ES train for 14 October 2006. I still get the same message for 29 and 39 euro fares.

Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I tried to do a dummy booking for both the night train and an earlier ES train and got the same results you did. The Trenitalia site probably is having one of its periodic meltdowns. Try again tomorrow.

The error message you are receiving means that they don't sell what you're asking for on that train, or, if they do, it is sold out.

To get the promotional ES fares, you basically have to buy them at midnight the day they go on sale if it's on a popular train.

A few weeks ago someone had the same problem - error messages for every train. They called their hotel to see if they could book it and the hotel discovered Trenitalia was having problems. The hotel was able to book their tickets at the special price and Trenitalia was made aware of the problem on their website.

If you are staying in Rome a few days first, have your hotel book the tickets or go to a travel agency when you get there.

I'm jumping in here hoping to get a little help from anyone who has (successfully!) used the Trenitalia reservation site. Stupid question--when you have to select seats, which ones pictured are facing front? As you look at the screen, are they the top ones (backs on top facing down) or the bottom ones (backs on bottom facing up)?

It also asks you to select seat numbers and car numbers? Should we do this or just skip it?

Thanks for your help.

MrTaz,

While I cannot help you with your question regard which direction the seat is facing, I could advise you that you do not have to choose a seat unless you have a railpass. A seat and car will be chosen for you after you choose window or aisle. Just skip that part.

There is simply no way to define it. Some stations are dead-ends, so the train goes in and backs out, and after the station forward-facing seating becomes backward-facing and vice versa. Therefore ther is no sense in defining.
