need help with travel to SPAIN
My husband and I will be traveling to Estepona next week. The only set plans we have are flights from the US to Madrid on Feb. 16 and our return on Feb. 25. We have hotel arrangements in Estepona from Feb. 17 - 23. We were considering the AVE from Madrid to Malaga and then renting a car for our stay in Estepona; then returning via AVE to Madrid.
- I have had difficulty getting AVE tickets - any suggestions - should I get them when I arrive?
- we want to stay in Madrid Sunday night Feb. 17 and need a recommendation for that night and the following Sat. and Sunday night (Feb. 23 and 24).
- what are must sees in Madrid - only have about 2 days
- we would like to go to Seville, Cordova, any other suggestions - probably drive since we will have a car
- I have mixed feelings about Gibraltar and Morocco - comments?
Any help would be appreciated

Your plans look fine to me,
The AVE service to Malaga only takes 2,5 hours.
regarding what you can see in Madrid
do some searching around considering your specific interest.
ie Museums, Restaurants, Churches,Old town, .........
Everybody is having problems with the Renfe site nowadays, so if you cannot buy your tickets now,at the time of the year that you are traveling there should be no problem to buy your tickets on arrival.
Definetively go to Cordoba and Sevilla, and my recomendation is to forget Gibraltar and Morrocco.
Gib is uninteresting and all you will get to see from Morrocco is a border town. Tijuana?

I waited until I arrived in Madrid to purchase my AVE tickets. Unfortuantely for me, I went to the train station and had to wait in line for over an hour. Then, after buying the tickets I realized that the agent had misunderstood me in regards to my destination and had to get the tickets changed. If at all possible, try to purchase the tickets before you leave or have your hotel to make the reservations for you.
Hotel in Madrid:
ROOM MATE MARIO
4, Campomanes - 28013 MADRID (Area : Gran Via, Sol, Opera)
Small, but clean room and I liked the location. It was around 100 Euros in 2006, and came with a great breakfast.

Have you checked Maribel's guide? See www.maribelsguides.com. I found it extremely useful for Madrid.
