well, I'm an American resident and I've printed PREMs tickets with no problem, as well as picked up others, when ordering online. I learned something on here, though, as I never knew they had PREMs to foreign countries (never looked, though), and the odd thing about how you can't print those kind of PREMs.
They tell you all this stuff on SNCF, though, every ticket I've bought on there has had the rules available to read before you purchase.
As far as I know, you do not have an option of printing tickets or picking up for certain kinds, and you cannot print any regular tickets (only idTGVs, Thalys, last minute offers, and PREMs). I didn't think it was ever optional, at least not in this case. For PREMs, you can choose to print them or have them mailed, but the mailing is only for locals. So a North American would have no choice but to print them. Which is really convenient anyway, it saves standing in line. You have no option of printing regular tickets, only the mail or pickup (which you would choose if not residing near a SNCF station).
If so, isn't it something you select online when you purchase the ticket as to how you want to receive it? I don't actually remember if I

Hi Lois,
On August 10, 2005 go to www.sncf.com
Click "Réservez ou achetez"
Click "Toutes nos offres Prem's" (rt side of screen)
Enter Avignon for "depart" and Paris for "arrivee"
Click "aller simple"
enter "10/10/2005" as the date
leave 00:00 in "à partir de".
You will get every train starting at 05:00.
PREMS fres are 25E, 2 cl.

the prems bit I can answer, it is a cheaper, non refundable, non changeable ticket. You have to be sure your itinerary doesn't change cos you are stuck with those times and dates. So if you are wanting to be flexible with dates then don't buy PREM. i think you would have to choose between a PREM or a senior, can't have both (combination). At least you are travelling all within France so you should be able to print, unlike moi, who is going from France to another country and has some tickets supposedly being posted to an Australian suburb in France - tricky! I am not sure about the TGV, when you look at the train type on the screen I think it tells you if it is TGV. Bon chance!

Shouldn't you enter "Avignon TGV" in the depart? That way you'll only get the TGV trains.
A note to other posters. Dates are in dd/mm/yyyy format. Lois is traveling on 10/10, so she does not have that problem with US date formats vs French.
Lois - if you need to pick up your tickets at a SNCF station, do so at the Sarlat station - it will be less hassell than the Avignon station(s). Also, if you take a taxi to the station, be sure you tell him the TGV station - not the Avignon Ville station.

After all the advice on Fodors I have successfully purchased and printed tickets from Avignon to PAris. I waited to the 60 days and first class prem tickets were 45 E each. i was wondering if leaving it till later was going to be cheaper, because I have seen that people here have bought them cheaper but it said "last tickets available" so didn't want to chance it.I am also in Aust. If you have a reference number you can print more copies if needed. One mistake I did make was - after being allocated seats, it only asked for one name and details, then the visa card info. I panicked that i only booked one ticket so got out and then when i went back in they only had seats not together. So tried once more and got seats together and after asking for credit card details it asked for the name of the passengers and finally printed tickets and thankfully I got an email straight back saying "Thanks for your confidence in Booking with SNCF"
My confidence was boosted by that.
