Need Help With the Austrian Railway Website

Anyone out there who can understand German? Had loads of problems reading the Austrian Railway website since I don't understand German and the English version is not as informational as the German version. I'm particularly interested in the below URL as I'm taking a train a overnight train from Zurich to Vienna. Pls advise what's the page about and how can I make the booking. Thank in advance. fosh

Hi fOsh,

I really prefer the Swiss rail website (www.rail.ch is the English-language address), so I checked your itinerary with a random date of 20 Dec. They show a train leaving Zurich at 22.40, arriving in Vienna at 08.03. Try the rail.ch site and see if it's easier for you.

Thanks alot S... so ever helpful...

I've checked the swiss website. But was reading the Austrian website and from that particular URL, it seems that there is a promotion from Zurich to Vienna for just 29 Euros. That's almost 80% difference from what I'm quoted.

fOsh, I checked the ÖBB website for you. The €29 offer is available for trains number EN 466/467 from Zürich. It is an overnight train, but €29 is for a seat, not a bed!

Train EN 466/467 is leaving Zürich at 22:33 (10:33 p.m.) and arriving in Vienna ab 08:05 (08:05 a.m.)

The offer is limited and subject to availability. The ticket must be bought in advance. No refund, no re-booking. Ticket is only valid on train EN 466/467, only for the day you booked it for.

You can book the ticket by phone number +43 05 1717, at the train station or at travel agents at the train stations (but I am afraid that is in Austria only).

If you want a bed in the overnight train, the price will be higher.

Alternatively take a look at www.airberlin.com for cheap flights from Zürich to Wien. I got a ticket for € 59, you have a wonderful view on the Alps during the (day)flight.

Hope this "translation" helps.

Hi fOsh,
you're right about the promotion, but ...

- prices begin at 29 Euro, for coach travel (different conditions apply to couchettes).
- the offer is valid only for the night trains EN 466/467 and EN 464/465 .
- tickets cannot be exchanged and are valid only for the date they were bought.
- tickets can only be bought at great stations, travel agencies at the train stations and at the telephone number : 05/1717 ( MobilitätsCallCenter ). They cannot be bought online.
