need help understanding how this forum works
Hello, I've have posted a couple of questions on this forum, checked in later to see if I have any responses only to find that I can't even find my original email, and that there are no responses at all. I must be doing something wrong - can anyone advise please?
Thanks

try clicking on your sign-in name - it will bring up any posts you've started and/or replyed to
If there's no response, most likely its because people didn't know the answer to your question, or you weren't specific enough in your title

That's what I do--clicking on my screen name under the Fodors logo. I always use the same computer so I keep myself logged in.
You can add something on your own post and that will bring it back up to the top of the column for more people to see. Sometimes on a busy day things can get lost really quickly. Some people who post here are really expert at self-promotion, and bring their own posts back to life again, and again, but that's a whole different story, not what you'd be doing.

Hopefully the explanations above clarify things. The easiest way is to 'click' on your screen name in the upper left of the screen. This will bring up a chronological list of any posts you started or replied to.
Things move very quickly on the Europe board, so there may be several hundred posts in a single day. When people answer your questions, it bring the thread back to the #1 position on the board.
If no one answers then it gradually sinks lower (i.e., becomes a higher numbered post). When you post a simple thank you as you did with the hotel, since it's not really a question people might not reply.

I just wanted to add that if you do not get responses to a post, because things move so quickly on this particular forum, you can post a ttt (to the top) as a reply. This may grab someones attention that may have missed the original question.
