need help understanding how this forum works

Hello, I've have posted a couple of questions on this forum, checked in later to see if I have any responses only to find that I can't even find my original email, and that there are no responses at all. I must be doing something wrong - can anyone advise please?
Thanks

Assuming you can find THIS post again, just click on your own name, and all your posts - and the replies - will come up.

try clicking on your sign-in name - it will bring up any posts you've started and/or replyed to

If there's no response, most likely its because people didn't know the answer to your question, or you weren't specific enough in your title

I just looked at any post that had your name attached to it.. you only started one thread that has 0 responses: the one to say 'thanks' for the Salzburg hotel rec.
So.. doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

I come up with 13 posts with your name in/on them...

That's what I do--clicking on my screen name under the Fodors logo. I always use the same computer so I keep myself logged in.

You can add something on your own post and that will bring it back up to the top of the column for more people to see. Sometimes on a busy day things can get lost really quickly. Some people who post here are really expert at self-promotion, and bring their own posts back to life again, and again, but that's a whole different story, not what you'd be doing.

If you find out how this forum works, could you let the rest of us know, please?:)

Sheila, I was just about to say that "occasionally" is how it works!

Hopefully the explanations above clarify things. The easiest way is to 'click' on your screen name in the upper left of the screen. This will bring up a chronological list of any posts you started or replied to.

Things move very quickly on the Europe board, so there may be several hundred posts in a single day. When people answer your questions, it bring the thread back to the #1 position on the board.

If no one answers then it gradually sinks lower (i.e., becomes a higher numbered post). When you post a simple thank you as you did with the hotel, since it's not really a question people might not reply.

I just wanted to add that if you do not get responses to a post, because things move so quickly on this particular forum, you can post a ttt (to the top) as a reply. This may grab someones attention that may have missed the original question.

Italiaphile, please let everyone know you have read replies to your post!
(Keeping this topped!)

I have to add that once in a while a posting is deleted by Fodors if it is not on a travel topic or has wandered into inappropriate territory.

I'm wondering if they'll deletee posts here because of all our t-parties.

uhoh_busted Nov 10th, 2004 06:07 PM

Guess I'll reply since it's down to number 48 and will soon "disappear" again.... :)
