Hi and thanks.
Someone else recommended we should indeed drive the car back to the Lisbon airport since we would be more relaxed in terms of when we have to leave our hotel and not have to worry about returning a car to catch the train back. They said the drive is actually scenic and to skip Sntra on the way back and stop in Evora for lunch. Sintra would be too much to add to the day that includes checking out of the hotel in Lagos, driving to Sintra, parking, having time to enjoy it and then driving to the airport to return the car and then check into the hotel. They said if you are going to do Sintra, do it as a day trip from Lisbon when we are there. It's up to us if we want more time in Lisbon or spend the day in Sintra. They said Evora is beautiful and it would be a much better and calm day from Lagos. So now I'm thinking of doing that. Thoughts?

Returning the car at Lisbon's airport rather than trying to drive in Lisbon is a good idea.
I enjoyed Evora, where I spent two nights. That said, I personally wouldn't try to stop there just for lunch on your way from Lagos to Lisbon. And much as I loved Sintra -- and I did love it! -- I wouldn't try to visit it as a day trip from Lisbon. That would just mean seeing only a smalls set of its treasures along with hordes of others. I'm glad I had time before and after day trippers.
But what I would do is irrelevant. It's your trip. YOU need to decide what you want to do and plan accordingly.
