need help on hotel in Paris

Hi everyone! I am still deciding on what hotel to choose and am hoping someone can help narrow down my decision. I would just love to have an attic room with sloped ceilings at a budget in the 5th (preferably, but close walking distance to Notre Dame).

I have looked at Hotel des 3 Colleges and they have 5th floor rooms like this, but they say that it is like 650ff a night! Isn't there a way to have a room like this (sloped/attic/room with view on a budget)that is in a good location??? I would even not mind having a sky/ceiling window.

Please advise me....am I crazy to be so picky, I just have an image in my head of what I would like --I honestly don't care if the room is like a hallway, as long as I would only have to pay like $55-60 dollars a night.

Thanks so much!!!!!
Patricia

I'm confused. Are you really looking for a room in an attic, or is the point of your post that you want cheap accommodations? If it's the latter, then I can probably help you out. Hotel Telemaque is in the 14th arrondisement and costs about $50 a night (approx. 250FF).

It is on a quaint little market street, Rue Daguerre and the room is basic, but clean. It's a decent hotel for the money, close to the metro (Denfert-Rouchereau), and only about a 15 minute ride to the center of town).

Another cheap sleep is Hotel Celtic, which is also in Montparnasse. Some other hotels I have heard of that are budget hotels in this same area are Hotel Fred, and Hotel Floridor.

Hope this helps!

Vanessa,

Thank you for your help. My question however, is where can I find an attic/sloped room at a budget price? I'm sure it must be possible somewhere.

Thanks again!
Patricia

I forgot to mention that my idea of budget is between $50-$65. It may not be possible, but I am hoping someone will know of something like this.

Thanks again to all!
Patricia

Patricia, I think I know what you are talking about. There is a wonderful little book called Fodor's hotels of character and charm in Paris. I have used this guide on many occasions to book rooms in Paris. The best thing about this guide is that it has hundreds of color photos there are several rooms with sloped ceilings. This particular guide has hotels in all price ranges, and gives very detailed descriptions. You might try checking out a copy in your local bookstore.

Thyra,

It's funny that you mention it because I just checked out that book from the library! It is very helpful and that's where I read about the Hotel des 3 Colleges!! I just wish the prices of the attic rooms were a little cheaper --then it would be perfect. I guess I'm looking for something that isn't possible to find in the 5eme cheaply.

I appreciate all your help!
Patricia

Patricia, for what it's worth. That book that you looked at has wonderful, inexpensive hotels by the dozen. (I have stayed at The Grand Balcons and a hotel in Montmatre, both terrific and under $100.00 per night). If the vision of a hotel room in Paris with sloped ceilings is dear to you, (something I can well appreciate) you don't say how long you will be in Paris but maybe if you found a lovely little hotel in your price range for all the nights except the last one or the first one of your Paris trip, then you could splurge and stay at the Hotel Des Collages in the room you want, for one night only. Similar to eating street food all during your trip then saving up for a really nice, pull out the stops dinner at a top Paris restaurant for your last night. We always travel on a tight budget and with a little creative planning you can have your dreams and stick to your limits as well. Good luck.
