Need Help In Transportation In Austria-Swiss-Italy

Good day to all,

I am first time user and inexperience in Europe transportation network. I heard many say the network in Europe is very convenience especially u take train transport.

I have browse thru some website suggested in this forum like DB Bahn, TGV, Eurail, etc, but i am still very confusing.

I am wanted to buy saver pass from Eurail for 3 countries 8 days, is around USD516. I am just wondering this pass is only use for travelling in this 3 countries borders or it can be use in the country internal railway system? It is enough to use or i need to buy additional other pass when i travel in these 3 countries?

My plan is to travel from Vienna --- Salzburg --- Interlaken --- Venice ---Florence ---Rome, is this route sound reasonable or otherwise?

Please advise and many thanks.

I highly doubt it'll cost you $516 if you buy point-to-point tickets.

Enter your intinerary on www.railsaver.com and click "only if a pass saves me money". It will give you an idea of whether you need a pass and which one would be best. In Italy, for many of the faster trains, seat reservations are required and you will have to purchase them (5E-20E depending on type of train).

thanks... based on the railsaver, i only need to buy 3 countries saver pass for 5 days, $392 and 1 vienna city to city pass. It is save man...

however, this eurail pass is widely use for most of the country internal train? or i still need to buy other local rail passes or it is applicable to local busses as well?

kyboubon, sorry that i am not really understand u... meaning, in Italy, is better to have eurail pass to save more?

Hi Kinyu,

Your railpass works within each country as well as between countries.

However, you will have to pay extra for trains on which seat reservations are required, for example ES* and AV in Italy. You will have to pay extra for any optional seat reservations you wish.

Enjoy your visit.

Most high-speed - versus slow local - trains require set reservations. You will have to buy those in addition to the rail pass. I don;t know if the pass covers buses - but doubt it.

Looking at you trip plan I think you will be much better off buying tickets in Europe as you go. Unless it is a special holiday - or an overnight train - they don;t sell out. And you can buy them on the spot a couple of days in advance for much less money.
