Thanks to everyone for their input. I appreciate all the information and opinions that each has taken the time to share with me. I know day 6 is impossible...like my heading, 8 days of touring in 6! The majority of you think I should nix Cambridge, but I really want to do something outside of London as I doubt I will ever make it back to the UK. I am not (and neither are the others) totally convinced that Cambridge is the only town outside London that we would be happy visiting, but it was the closest. If anyone has a different suggestion to accomplish the same goal, please share with me your preferences. Again, thanks for all the help. Karen

Well - to respond to your last post, Windsor is outside of London, so can that count? It's a cute town in addition to having the Castle. Takes about 1/2 get there see the castle and maybe have lunch in town.

Also, this may have been covered, but look at a map of London tourist sites. Westminster, Parliament, Cabinet War Rooms and Buckingham are all within walking distance - you should group these on the same day.

We are not really into spending huge amounts of time in museums but spent 3 hours in the British Museum anyway, just hitting the "highlights". But, as someone noted, 1 day a week they are open until 8pm or so, which could help in planning.

Southwark Cathedral is nice but definitely not something you'd HAVE to see. We stopped in for about 20 minutes just because it was on our way to the Globe Theatre. Have fun!

Can your party agree on 1 garden, 1 castle(Windsor or Hampton Court), 1 cathedral (Westminster Abbey), then flesh out the rest? I agree that Southwark, while lovely, can be postponed for another visit. Consider a 2-hour walking tour. One I took through "Literary Bloomsbury" hit the British Museum (quick look), and Trafalgar squarej, as well. From St Pauls, you can cross over the Thames on the Millenium Bridge . Anyone interested in touring the Globe? It's right there on the other side, as is Tate Modern Gallery.
For a break in your intense city schedule, may I suggest a day trip by train to the Costwolds for the charming, English village, honey-colored -cottage fix. The station at Moreton-on-Marsh is a 5 minute walk from town. Tuesdays is the market day and there are good places to eat at all price ranges (Black Bear Pub or the Goose.)
