Boshophorus is a dream. There are some places close to the city.(like Princes islands). You can ask for any further info.
Grand Yavuz is a nice hotel 45$per night.Ask the hotel for room 614.But there are many other hotels at Sultanahmet area. You can also try text search -istanbul hotels.
Sept is very nice time to go there.Hope you have a wonderful week

Debby, when you book a hotel (which you can do via Internet easily), make sure that if you are more or less in the right category, bargain for the price you want (if they write back with a price of 60, say you can only afford 45). $50 will get you a decent room in Istanbul - clean, rooftop breakfast with view, sometimes private balcony. Try Side Pansiyon (some bedrooms w/ private bathroom), Uyan Hotel, Hotel Park, Star Gueshouse, or Terrace Guesthouse. All of these are in Sultanahmet. Be careful of the restaurants in Sultanahmet if you're on a budget. Go to a Meshur Koftescisi intead.

Ah Istanbul, my favorite city of all ! I lived there 4 years and loved every second of it !!
With the current economic problems, you can find good hotels at reasonable prices. September is already getting out of the main tourist season so you can try to bargain or ask 'is that your best price?' to each hotel and 8 out of 10 will do their best to reduce the price. There are lots of hotels in that range in the Sultanahmet region (try Sarnic hotel tel: +90 212 518 2323) or the Taksim region (the heart of modern Istanbul, try Cartoon hotel which is at the top of Tarlabasi street. Tel:+90 212 238 9328). I think the Cartoon hotel would be the most ideal and its very well located.
Also, one week in Istanbul is no way too long, you will surely want to stay more......
Do try the great fish restaurants with a very typical atmosphere in Kumkapi, the best one is Evren tel: +90 212 516 6272..speak to Hamit there, and if u tell him u are Yves', the French mans friend, he'll give you great value for money!! (we go there all the time that's why). Have a good time.....

I think they have double rooms with balcony for about $50. Around the corner from the Four Seasons ($380).
