Need budget hotel Paris in July. Help!

My husband and I will be in Paris for 5 nights end of July. Want to spend little to no time in hotel, so we're seeking cheap places like 30 Euro/ night for a double. District doesn't matter, just want Parisian experience and safety and maybe air conditioning. Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks!

30E a night is pretty budget. We have stayed at the excelsior in the 5th. I think that it fits the budget hotel catagory.

Hi e,

>..30 Euro/ night for a double...maybe air conditioning<

I think that you are going to have think closer to 80E.

I highly recommend AC.

I'm always on a strict budget with 4 teenage children, and have spent ages searching for a cheap hotel in July. I think I have struck lucky with one in Montmartre (air-con and breakfast in a courtyard garden) close to the metro at Clignancourt). I found it through www.activehotels.com, who do good hotel deals in Europe. It's certainly the best deal I found for a seemingly halfway decent hotel.

I believe that this is an impossible mission... even at twice the price... even in Paris, Kentucky or Illinois or Texas.

You might be able to get a copy of a video of Paris Hilton, for that price.

Best wishes,

Rex

I shudder to think of what you might find for 30€ a night in Paris...

For twice the money plus 2€, you might want to look at Pension Ladagnous on 78 Rue d'Assass near the Luxembourg Gardens. Website is www.pensionladagnous.com. I haven't stayed there but heard about it through word of mouth.

The very cheapest places with A/C are Formule 1 hotels on the outskirts of Paris. But these are not necessarily convenient for transport. But they'll probably be under 40E.

http://www.formule1hotels.com

Other cheaper places (but more than 40E):
Mr. Bed Bagnolet
Etap (double-check for A/C):
http://www.etaphotels.com
Ibis Bagnolet
http://www.ibishotels.com

I don't recommend any of these (although some other Ibis hotels would be fine). But if you insist on that low budget AND A/C, look into them.

Just realised I didn't mention the hotel - it's the Ibis Paris Ornano.

This site has some hotels close to your price range. Remember, though, that the prices are per person based on double occupancy. Keep checking this site, they have great deals:

You might also look into hostels. I ran into someone last July who paid about 18E per night for a bed in a hostel near Gare du Nord -- not exactly desireable, but cheap...There are certainly hostels in better areas that might fit the bill.

Wow, that's cheap (18 euros).

Maybe the Let's Go guides have some good recommendations, now that I think about it?

There are hostel beds even cheaper than 18E, but none have A/C so far as I know.

Really. I guess I learn something new every day.

I've only stayed in a hostel once -- in London, and I've no idea how much I paid for it. All I remember from the experience is rushing out from a Proms concert to make the curfew.

Book at your own risk, I didn't "screen" for reviews first...

Recommended by "Jack" at
http://www.jack-travel.com/ (I think you should make sure the ROOM has A/C, not just the public areas)

Hotel Bellevue, 46 rue Pasquier tel 0143875068 fax 0143875068
On the place Saint-Lazare, not far from the grands boulevards, excellent starting point to discover the areas of the Opera, the Madeleine and the Grands Boulevards. This hotel, renovated in 1994 has 46 rooms of a very good ratio quality/price. Avoid the ones looking out on the courtyard: they are horribly dark. Double-glassing everywhere and air-conditioning in the rooms with shower. A double with shower, WC, direct phone, TV and hair-dryer for 50 € (big bed) and 57 € ( twin beds). Rooms for 2 adults and 2 children for 63 €.

Hotel de Crimee, 188 rue de Crimee tel 0140367529 fax 0140362957
Ten minutes from La Vilette, an ultramodern hotel with 31 rooms and comfortable decoration, nice bathrooms. Soundproof, with air-conditioning and cable TV, phone, hair-dryer. Single for 42 to 47.50 €. Doubles for 49 € to 55 € if it’s a shower or bathroom and how the size of the room is.

Hotel de la Paix, 43 rue Duranton tel 0145571470 fax 0145570950
Very frequented when there are trade fairs at the nearby porte de Versailles. Modern rooms, all personalized with tissue on the walls. All have satellite TV and direct phone. Rooms on the 6th have airco. Single and double from 47 to 49.50 € with WC and shower

NOTE: many hotels have a similar or same name, match the address to make sure you are dealing with the correct one

OK so I guess 30 Euro is to low. This is our first trip and we are a little (alot) inexperienced. So if we increase to about 50-60 Euro, what can you recommend? Safe location is important.

It also might help to know what is your total budget expectation is for the trip. And take into account that the dollar exchange is very poor right now so translate € into dollars so you realize what the true cost is.

Almost all of the above hotels are more than 50-60E. Take a look at http://www.eurocheapo.com/Paris/ but keep in mind none of those are A/C and most are more than 60E.

The Hotel Cosmos, 35 rue Jean Pierre Timbaud, 11th arrondissement, four Metro stations walkable ,and a large number of restaurants nearby, including the Astier, traditional French food with a fixed price 29 euro menu (consult guidebooks you'll find the restaurant.) Double rooms are 55 euros, elevator, in-room bathrooms no artificial climate. This is a small, pleasant, family-run hotel that does business with European tour groups, and one of the great lodging bargains of Paris.

HI
there are responses to your same question on your other thread--I'm glad that your time in Paris has increased from one night to 5 nights.
