Need advice on Berlin neighborhood
Dear Fellow Fodirites,
I need your expert advice on this particular neighborhood in Berlin. We are a family
of four and will be in Berlin for 2 days the end of this month. I found a great deal for
a 4-star hotel in MITTE- ---KREUZBERG area. How safe is this area considering that we are landing around 11pm in the night?
Thank you

Mitte is fine, but Kreuzberg can extend fairly far south. I don't think Kreuzberg is unsafe, but may be inconvenient for sightseeing depending on the actual location. An actual hotel name/address will be much more helpful.

Thank you danon and yk. I do not have the exact location. This is a deal frm Hotwire.
How safe is SXF airport area for non-cacausian travellers at midnight? My apologizes for being so direct, but I read few
reports that were concerning. Any input is greatly appreciated.

cannot answer that.
there is a S-Bahn station right there , but I don't know how late the trains runs. It may not even be in the direction of your hotel.

The airport area is fine, also at midnight. The airport's train station is a 500 meters walk from the terminals - and is somewhat deserted after midnight.
But I would not recommend to take the suburban train into town.
First, there a few trains running after midnight, and any connection to the Mitte/Kreuzberg district will require at least one change.
Secondly, there is indeed a chance that you may encounter not so friendly people on the train on that line at those hours, esp. for non-caucasians.
There are surprisingly few "real incidents" on public transport in Berlin, but why start your vacation with a bad gut feeling.
I'd suggest you take a taxi.
