What would be my best/cost effective option of getting Interlaken Switzeland from Rome?

There are no overnight trains rolling between Switzerland and Italy and day trains would take several hours - if in a hurry look at cheap flights from say Zurich or Bern if there are any.

So I am in Milan right now and its gonna be raining for the next 2-3 days straight. I really want to go to Interlaken Switzerland leaving today. I know this is last minute and rushed, but can someone help me on what my best option would be via train or bus.

Much appreciated as always, you guys rock!

Before you head up to Interlaken, what is the weather prediction for there?

Unfortunately rain and more rain, but it seems to be raining everywhere in Europe. This is really frustrating, I dont know what to do. Just sitting in Milan central station wondering what to do.

Train to Rome or flight to Paris or Barcelona. Cities, at least, have lots of inside things to do.

Munich or Berlin could also be possibilities.

Well it will be rainy there too probably - in rain I'd day trip to Lucerne or Bern, two wonderful cities that can be enjoyed in rain - especially Bern since it has many unique covered walkways in its town center.

Brig is a really neat town but with little of the awe factor most folks expect in Switzerland - I'd base up in the hills in say Grindelwald and if rain it's a 20 minute train jaunt down to Interlaken and trains to Bern or Lucerne.

But there is relatively little to do for tourists in Brig or Spiez, lovely as they are.

Interlaken itself can be fun in wet weather - especially if into casinos in that town's famous ornate casino - worth a look if not into gaming - has some shows at night, etc.

So I spent a day in Bern and it was quiet beautiful indeed. The covered walk ways helped a lot and there was a ton to see within a short walking distance. I am looking to go from Bern to somewhere in Germany, would Munich be the way to go? Also for the overnight trip it is 140 EU through bahn.de does that sound right and is that the cheapest option? I mean I will saving about 40 franks on a hostel, but that still is pretty pricey for me.

Thanks once again, you guys have been awesome and hopefully I can contribute to the community as well after doing a bit of travelling.

We enjoyed Munich, Salzburg, Vienna. The train also looks like it stops at Melk, between Salzburg and Vienna--grand old monastery with interesting surrounding country.

Most faster trains Salzburg/Munich to Vienna I think do not stop in Melk but you have to get off and change at the last station before Melk where the train stops and transfer to a local train to Melk. Maybe some fast trains stop at Melk, not sure but I believe many do not.

a one-hour train trip takes you to Bratislava from Vienna - I did this recently as a day trip - a nice restored old town on the Danube. And can be on the way to Prague.
