Need a Stop Between Dordogne and Paris

We will be driving from the Dordogne area to Paris in October. We do not want to do this all in one day. Does anyone have any suggestions for an overnight stop between the two areas? We would like to spend about 1/2 day at this destination so we need an interesting town or wonderful B&B, castle or hotel. The map I am using to plan the trip is quite old so I am not sure if new major roads have been added between Dordogne and Paris.

I'm probably not supposed to reply since I haven't been there yet. However, we are breaking our Dordogne to Paris drive by a stay in the Loire. We're staying in Amboise, but there are locations closer to the Dordogne, i.e., maybe Chinon.

We broke our journey in Onzain, staying at the Domaine des Hautes de Loire--really beautiful place with peaceful grounds.

I have a similar plan and I am considering anything between Mortemart and Amboise/Onzain/St Aignan, depending on how far I get that night. Possibilities in between these places include Loches/Montresor, St Benoit-du-Sault, Angles-sur-l'Anglin.
I'd be interested to hear what you decide.

We stayed at l'Abbaye de Fontevraud in the Loire area on our way to the Dordogne. The rooms were fairly basic, but we had a wonderful meal, and you can walk around the old abbey grounds at night.

And you can see the tomb efficies of Richard the Lionheart, Henry II, and Eleanor of Aquitaine. There's Gregorian chant in some of the church masses.

If you're using an old map, you probably can't see that what used to be the N20 is now an autoroute extending north to Brive.

Don't miss Oradour-sur-Glane outside Limoges, though, even if it means taking slower roads for part of the trip. It's an amazing an moving place.
