need a beach btw florence and bologna

I'm looking for a beach (nothing fancy) somewhere north of Florence and south of Bologna...I'm in Florence and heading toward Bologna, so I'm looking for something that isn't terribly out of the way. Any suggestions?

Do you have a car? I would suggest Rimini. Any beach is going to be out of the way.

A closer beach would be Viareggio. It's about an hour and a half by either car or train, with no change in train stations. If you go to Rimini, the trains connect through Bologna anyway and the train trip is about 2 and half hours. If you drive, taking the autostrada from Florence to Rimini, again you have to go through Bologna and the trip is about 2 and half hours. If you go over the mountains it's three and half hours.

Your request is very nice because it seems we shoul modify the geography of this part of Italy.
You're talking about two towns located both in the middle of the Appennino, the mountain chain that's the backbone of Italy; so both seas, Tirrenian and Adriatic, are far enough and, more or less, with the same long distance.
Anyway, yes, Adriatic is easier to go from Florence to Bologna, going to Rimini.

Have a lovely trip, ciao.

Vincenzo

How is it in Rimini today, mostly Russians and very expensive? Are the Germans back? I loved it during the late sixties, early seventies. The cable car, open air cinena showing the latest bond movie on the big screen after sunset. The delphinarium (nobody cared about animal protection during those days anyway...) and the classic concerts. And nobody asking for A/C, because we didn't know what it was or what it's good for anyway

Has the algae problem been solved? You don't hear much about Rimini today.
