Naxos vs Paros?

My fiance and I are in our late 20's and are planning our honeymoon in Greece for Sept 07. After spending a couple days in Athens, we will have 6 nights to spend in the islands. We definitely want to visit Santorini, but we are having difficulty deciding on our second island. We have narrowed it down to Naxos and Paros, but can't decide between the two! We are most interested in relaxing, enjoying beaches, good wine and good food. Any suggestions?

Hi abennis
the two islands that you ask don't have many diffrences, Naxos is bigger, Paros is more tourist developed, in both islands you can enjoy beaches(in my opinion Naxos's are a little better),in Paros there are very good conditions for windsurfing, good wine and good food you can find all over Greece.
In your place I would go Athens-Paros or Naxos - Santorini, to have the best last.
If you want to know anything else let me know.

I think there's more to see and do on Paros for a few days. Rent a scooter and explore the road that circumnavigates the island. Stop at Golden Beach for lunch and for watching the windsurfers.

The two islands are similar in many ways, but also have differences. Naxos, it is true, is larger, but most of the tourist development is concentrated in a small area from Naxos town southward through the beaches of Ag Prokopios, Ag Anna, and Plaka. The whole area is very compact, with a bus trip from Naxos Town to Plaka taking only about 20 min. The rest of the island is relatively undeveloped, with picturesque mountain villages such as Filoti, and the north coast village of Apollon where you can see the Kouros, a giant unfinished statue just outside the village.

Paros has beach resorts all round the island. Parikia is the port town, and the major development on the island. It also has picturesque mountain villages, including the wonderful Lefkes. Most tourists head for Naoussa, and old fishing village now developed for tourism, with the island's best known beach, Kolimbithres, accessible by taxi boat from the harbor. There are several other smaller beach resorts, including Piso Livadi and Chrisi Akti, good for windsurfing, and Aliki, a quiet resort area. Pounta is where the car ferry leaves for Antiparos. It also has a kitesurfing center.

Antiparos is my favorite island, and is only a ten minute ferry ride from Pounta. If you are looking for a quiet, laidback island with good beaches and restaurants, that is the place to go. There are about six beaches within walking distance of Antiparos Town, and the pedestrian-only main street is lined with cafes and tavernas. You can find out more about Antiparos at

Between Paros and Naxos i would choose Paros personally.Smaller, with nice beaches and cute towns. I would suggest you to stay at Naoussa and as a previous poster mentioned, if you'll rent a car or scooter visit the village of Lefkes too.

My husband and I just returned from Paros and Santorini. It was amazing! We loved Paros. We stayed at Stelia Mare in Naoussa and it was perfect! The service was great, the rooms were beautiful and we really liked being walking distance to town. We also rented a car one day and toured the entire island. The whole island is about 60km. We spent a day at Kolimbithres beach which was charming. We also rented scooters for a half day for @ 10euros each. Parikia is nice but I wouldn't stay there. Piso Livadi is beautiful too, as is Aliki. We were originally going to stay on Naxos but found it harder to find a nice hotel. They seem to be lower end places than on Paros.
Santorini was like no place we have ever seen. It is absolutely breathtaking. We stayed at Sunny Villas in Imerovgli, right outside Fira. The views are incomparable. I think this is the most charming place to stay although we saw some beautiful places in Ia as well. Fira is beautiful but a little too touristy. Too many fancy jewelry stores and Dolce & Gabbana.
Congratulations and enjoy.

Thank you all for the great recommendations! It sounds like we can't go wrong either way, I only wish we had more time. I will be sure to post once we finalize our destinations!
