National holiday

We are planning to be in Spain next Oct. either the first or second week of the month. If we go the second week we will be there during Spain's National Day Holiday(Oct12),most likely in Madrid on that date but that is not definite. Is that an exciting time to be in Spain due to the holiday or just an inconvenience because things will be closed?

12 Oct is also la Virgen de Pilar. In Zaragoza, site of the Magnificant Pilar Cathedral (and probably throughout Aragon), that Feast Day is celebrated. It might be worth a trip to Zaragoza.

There is nothing really special in Madrid due to the Holiday and all restaurants and tourism sites will be open.
Regarding the Zaragoza trip it is certainly the BIG time during The Pilar festivities with beatiful flowers settings around the Church and great celebrations.
But transportation and hotels will be very difficult to arrange.
