Madrid - May 15 - Special Holiday/hotel room shortage?
Have read somewhere that on or around May 15 each year there is a special celebration in Madrid
surrounding a saint's birthday, celebrations, special bullfight competitions, etc. Am planning
a trip to Spain mid-May with daughter and tentatively (per flight availability) plan to arrive
on Tues., May 15. Does anyone, particularly a
Spanish/Madrid poster, know if there will be extra
difficulty booking a hotel room at this time, and also, what is this "special" celebration and how does it affect tourism at the time. Please help, as
need to firm up arrangements ASAP. THANKS!

May 15 is the day of San Isidro, the saint patron of Madrid. I think there are special festivities going on but I don't think they are of a nature that the city is "paralyzed". Hopefully a madrileño or somebody familiar with what goes on will respond.

Is this a national holiday in Spain on May 15th? What should we expect to be closed throughtout the country? In particular, I am concerned about Burgos and surrounding area. Thanks for any information you can provide. Deborah

We were in Madrid for the San Isidro festivities last year. Numerous events are scattered around the city, with nightly concerts at Plaza Mayor. Yet another reason for the Madrileños to party, as if they needed one! We followed the parade of Los Gigantes y Cabezudos (giant-headed puppets) from the Plaza del Sol to City Hall, but even this did not paralyze the city, not like Semana Santa in Sevilla.
