Narrow boats

We are planning a return trip to England and are looking into renting a narrow boat for a week, possibly in the York area. Has any one out there had an experience with this type of accomadation/travel. Would be interested in hearing people's expereinces. Thanks in advance.

I have not, but saw some great deals on skyauction.com for $299 and $499 a week. I was very pleased with them, as we got our Cunard cruise at skyauction, and they were better than a normal TA.

Hi

When are you planning on coming to England? I have just come back from a weekend trip on a narrow boat. E-mail if you want to know more.

Woody

Have you read The Rose Revived by Katie FForde (yes, 2 "f"s in Fforde)? It's a novel about the trials and tribulations of contemporary living aboard a narrow boat in the London area. Has a lot of practical tips along the way.

Another book "Live skills" (1999)by Katie Fforde is centred an operator of hotel narrowboat and stories about all the up and down on the canal.

I am always interested on boating in European waterways. Last month,I tried a short narrowboat trip on Llangollen Canal,it was lovely to walk along the canal by the boat. There were many self-drive boats around. To me the only draw back would be the weather,it would be quite cramped in the rain.

Judy

Snap! It was the llangollen canal that we went at the end of September. It was my favourite trip so far. You are absolutley right about the weather. We had one day where it rained all day and it wasnt much fun at all.

Woody
