Napoleon's Apts. Closed in Paris?
I will be in Paris Feb 24 to Mar 3. Are the Napoleon apartments closed? I believe they form part of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, which is closed for renovations except for the Medieval and Renaissance sections according to their website. Thanks for any help!

WHERE in the Louvre? What I remember is the large room with Napoleon's throne and the beautiful, circular carpet with his insignis on it. Off to the side was a corridor display case with, among other lovely objects, the travelling case of Marie-Antoinette.

Hi there!
I saw them at the Louvre just last month. When you enter the Louvre, get a map of the museum. They are clearly marked on the map as to the wing and the floor. I had no problem finding them. You can also see the French "crown jewels" while you are there -- I put them in quotation marks as I just saw the British Crown Jewels, and there is no comparison
(not surprising given the history...)

The Napoleon III apartments are not in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs. They are in the Louvre, first floor, Richelieu wing, rooms 84-96. They were for many years the office of the Ministry of Finance, which was pulled out kicking and screaming when the Louvre expanded to include this space.

I know the Napoléon II apartments at the Louvre; what I'm after are the Emperor Napoléon rooms that seem to have vanished, along with several rooms of absolutely ravishing Boulle furniture and Savonnerie carpets.

Got to:
http://www.louvre.fr/llv/musee/visit...sp?bmLocale=en
Under Curatorial Departments click on More (6 views) under Decorative Arts.
Then click on 1st floor, Richelieu wing
Appartements Napoléon III, Grand Salon View
So, no, they haven't been moved. Sometimes different exhibits are closed due to lack of staff. I don't know where that schedule is on the Louve site.

I googled it and came up with some pictures:
http://www.peacham.com/france/fontainebleau.htm
Scroll down about 1/3 of the way for the throne picture.
Is that what you are thinking of?

Thanks for the links--what a gorgeous room! But it's not the one I remember, which was definitely at the Louvre and a bit plainer. Besides the throne there was a huge carpet, too large for the room, actually, with bees woven in it along with fleur-de-lys symbols. It was in a series of rooms of Boulle furniture and glorious Savonnerie carpets, for which I have a passion. I'm beginning to think most of this went into storage when the current Napoleon rooms were set up in the Richlieu wing.

The Louvre has a searchable database. You can even search on a map of the Louvre and see what is in each room.
Got to the main site:
http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home_flash.jsp
across the top you will see museum, collection, etc. Under collection you can select Databases. Under the first section you will see >Atlas Database. Click on it.
Several options will then come up in French. You can do a Simple Search, and Advanced Search, or by room -Par Salles.
If you click on Par salles you can then select Richelieu and in the second box, 1 e etage, click on Afficher le plan. You will then see a plan of the Richelieu wing. As you roll your mouse over the different rooms, a description will appear of the room. Click on a room and a picture pops up.
Try Room 75. I believe this is what you are looking for. I did a Simple Search on Savonnerie and came up with several results.
