Mykonos to Karpathos?
Hello All,
Golden Girls here, we are still irony out the kinks in our first trip to Greece and of course someone has thrown a wrench in the plans. lol, one of the ladies wants to now visit Karpathos.
From what I am reading it's a bit out from the other Greek islands. so far we plan on spending 2 days in Athens on the front end then head over to Mykonos. Is it hard to get from Mykonos to Karpathos?
Any thing you can tell us about this island?
Thanks all

As far as I know the only ferry that stops at Karpathos is the Prevelis from Anek Lines, and the closest island to Mykonos where you can catch the Prevelis is Santorini. Or, you can return to Athens/Piraeus and catch it there. It's a long trip wth many stops along the way and only runs a couple of times each week, and depending on where you catch it and at what time of year it might not be the most convenient island to visit. You can check ferry timetables here: www.gtp.gr
If budget isn't an issue it would be a lot faster if you were to fly back to Athens and then fly on to Karpathos from there.
I would also urge you to save your time on the mainland for the end of your trip so you have those extra days "grace" in case of any sort of delay or cancellation out on one of the islands.

I have wanted to go to Karpathos for awhile but in 12 trips haven't made it there, it's THAT hard to connect to. Look at a map. I helped someone plan a trip about 3 years ago and a Karpathos stop was a MUST because her companion had relatives there, and the rest of their trip was in the Cyclades island... and it was a real PAIN to plan. You can get a ferry from Rhodes & back, but not conveniently. Talk your friend out of it ... tell her that it will mess your itinerary completely, and she needs to save it for a separate trip.

Mykonos - Karpathos by ferry is easy, but only once weekly:
Mykonos dp Friday 12.45 by Golden Star ferry - Heraklion ar 20.45, sleep close to the harbour (Hotel Aquila Atlantis or so).
Heraklion dp Saturday 11.00 by FB Prevelis - Karpathos ar 18.55
resp
Mykonos dp Friday 15.20 by Golden Star catamaran - Milos ar 20.20, have dinner in a restaurant close to the port where you can see when the Karpathos bound ferry will arrive, Milos dp 23.30 by FB Prevelis (cabins, self service restaurant) - Karpathos ar 18.55
Timtetables of FB Prevelis may change until next summer.
2 weekly overnight ferries from Karpathos to Piraeus/Athens
daily flights from Karpathos to Athens
some direct flights from Karpathos to airports in Germany, UK and Italy during the season

In your other thread you wrote:
After you’ve read neckervd’s post you probably realise you can’t do both Mykonos and Karpathos in 4 days. If you forget Mykonos and fly both ways to/from Karpathos it will be feasible.
We only have 7 days so we decided on 3 days in Athens and 4 days on an Island.

Thanks for the tip. We will certainly do that.
