David,
I stayed there 2 years ago. Great experience at the hotel - nice modern rooms, bathrooms and good service.
The beach (forgot the name but it's nice) is walking distance and the boats dock off of here for other beaches like SuperParadise Beach and Paradise Beach.
You don't say how old you are but you must go into Mykonos town and enjoy the sights and beautiful harbor. The bus leaves from the street that your hotel is on ALL the time.
I would go to Delos for a day trip, time permitting.

I've recommended this hotel many times on this board. I stayed there in 1997 and enjoyed it a lot. Excellent service, nice rooms, very good buffet breakfast. I was impressed that they had glass shower doors. On my first trip to Greece, I stayed in several hotels and never saw a shower curtain, just a drain in the middle of the floor, a nozzle hanging from a wall, and everything would get wet. You'll experience a more modern Greece, but you'll also be missing a cultural experience.

I enjoyed the location. Yes, you'll be at the stopping off point to get a boat to the popular beaches. Also, the bus to town stops right in front of the hotel. Be sure to request a sea view or you'll hear the buses all day.

My favorite thing to do on Mykonos is to wander the streets, especially early in the day before the tourists are out and about. Magical.

We found a laundry service near the bus station. We accumulated our laundry, took it in, wander the town, had lunch, and picked up our clean, folded laundry on the way back to the hotel. Was inexpensive.
i think if you did a search on petassos beach in this forum you would find good recommendations of this hotel throughout...fyi, though practically all rooms face the water, some rooms may have an obstructed view..so check your room and ask for a better one if it doesn't satisfy you; their staff is so nice and accomodating...

we tried to take advantage of the delos boat trip by the hotel side dock instead of heading out to mykonos town but the boat tends to be smaller and therefore more vulnerable to the winds and not appropriate for those prone to seasickness...also, the beach strip has a number of restaurants that you can dine @ night..too bad i can't remember the one we ate that night..it was quite good...

David,
I was just wondering your ages because some of the beaches are geared to crazy partying and nudity (SuperParadise and Paradise).
Mykonos is a cosmopolitan island with a diverse crowd so I was just wondering what you were looking for.
Petasos is a great choice and has a variety of restaurants on the beach. Take advantage of the bus (gets CROWDED)into town.

It depends on how much time you have but look into these islands:
Naxos, Paros, Santorini (cliche but it is magnificent), Hydra (very close to Athens).
I love Petasos Hotel and just remembered the beach it's on - Plati Yialos (nice but gets crowded). Go visit other beaches like Psarou, SuperParadise (if you're into a wild party), Ornos (family beach), etc.
I am so jealous because I go to the Islands every year and cannot go this year.
You will love it - just take in the beautiful sunsets, great food and people watching.

Alexia,
Thanks, your feedback has been great - I can't wait to get there. Most of my travels so far have been to the Caribbean as I am based in Canada. I'm assuming you are based in Europe to get there every year. My wife is Italian so it will benice to get a little closer to her roots.
I'm a real sit back and people watch kind of person so it sounds like there is lot's of that.
I would love to share some more travel experiences if you feel so led.
David
