Mykonos in April

We are going to be on Mykonos in April and are planning to rent an Airbnb on Matogianni Street in Chora. We are early risers and not into the late night partying scene so I'm wondering how noisy this area might be at night during that time of year? I know that it's shoulder season, but are there still loud thumping clubs going late into the night in that area outside of the busy tourist season?

It will be very quiet on Mykonos in April except around Greek Orthodox Easter, which is on April 16th in 2023. During the week leading up to Easter Sunday, and including the day after (Easter Monday), lots of people will be travelling to/from Mykonos to be with their families during this most important religious festival. Book your flights and ferries well in advance for travel to Mykonos before Easter, and travel back to Athens afterwards.

Mykonos gets busy in the summer, with peak season in July and August. I don’t expect the international party set will be flocking to Mykonos for a religious festival. Outside of Easter Week Mykonos will be quiet again until summer visitors begin to arrive. Easter will be a wonderful time to observe Greek traditions.

Thanks for your response, Heimdall. We are going to be on Santorini (Pyrgos) for Greek Orthodox Easter, arriving Mykonos on April 17th and departing there the 20th to return to Athens. I intend to book our ferry passages as soon as the seats open up, which I understand is about three months out. I appreciate the insight.

It would be madness to book ferries now for next April. Some ferry companies release schedules early, then change them before the start of the season. Sea Jets, which brings some of their highspeed ferries out of winter lay up for Easter, may not even know at this point which ferries they will deploy. Blue Star Ferries is consistent from year to year, always having a large conventional ferry to Mykonos every day except Easter Sunday.

Mykonos will be very busy for the week in April leading up to Orthodox Easter Sunday, and ferries for that period should be booked well in advance. The OP will be arriving at Mykonos on Easter Monday, when ferries could be full going back to the mainland, but not in the direction of the islands. April is off season except for the Greeks who go to the islands for Easter Week, then begin returning home on Easter Monday.

Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday in 2023 will be April 16th, not the beginning of the month. See post #2.

Again, suggest you go with your instincts — Naxos is a much better choice than Mykonos for a couple in their 70s, unless you want to visit the archeological site on Delos.

EDIT: And more will be open on Naxos in April, as it has a larger permanent population.

I'm not quite sure why it's assumed that we are in our 70's. Far from it, in fact. We just aren't into late night clubbing and never have been, that's all. We have a nice itinerary planned for Easter Monday and the next couple of days on Mykonos and we are looking forward to it. Delos is on our list, as well. We are anxious to see the island outside of the busy tourist season. Thanks for all the replies.

My apologies, Statia! I posted my reply on the wrong thread. Delos indeed is well worth visiting from Mykonos.
