lol, Suki, I must be one of those Brits who can't "do" irony. i know what you mean and about his/her wallowing in misfortune - I had a grandad like that; he was never happy unless he was sad, and even then he was miserable.

I think part of the fun for Dobby is seeing some of us get all twisted in a knot over his posts.

Some of the "rest of us" have just read his posts and taken them for what they are - a rather unique "travelogue", true or false, and haven't been "personally attacked".

Heimdall: I am amused by Dobby's posts, but what amuses me even more is that so many people who are offended by them come back for more.

That's part of the fun of this thread.

BTW, Dobby, Happy New Year! Some of us do hope that you return to England and give us more of your travel experiences.

This is an example (from Dobby himself) of how he sees the world:

ticket woman - has attitute and was rude to me
red haired lady on train - wanted her to shut up, she bothered me
blonde girl - agressive leg crosser and ticked me off
Euston town - trashy area I didn't like it
gym attendant - rude to me
all Londoners - have fake coughs and this bothers me

No wonder many people find Dobby annoying and irritating.
He can't find anything enjoyable in his life and apparently finds only things to complain about. Poor Dobby life is tough.

For Dobby's negatives, he's greeted with a opposing negative: "a miserable twerp" or someone has to go all the trouble of LISTING his negative comments.

Appears like Dobby hasn't cornered the market on negativity.

I tried buying tickets online weeks ago but the station in the village does not support this. I have to buy them same day at the booth. There are no agents at the station on weekends, so buying on the train was my only option. The woman did not care and was still a rude bat. Also I saw other people back in December buy tickets with their credit card and the ticket person did not give them a hard time. Next time I'm going to just deal with a male ticket agent.

socaltravler- When did I say these people hated Americans? Never. If I'm a ''snot'' then stop coming back.

challenger- I usually keep to myself when I'm out in public. If I'm with friends I'm not loud and don't bring much attention to myself. Which is weird when I'm being treated this way. I take showers and wear clean clothes. If someone coughs loudly at me and it's not on purpose they should say excuse me. I didn't say everyone was rude, there were a few people through out the day that were very nice.

Why is everyone attacking me just because I said a handful of people that day were mean to me? How is everything my fault??
