The Champs Elysees shooting had one one minor political effect: Macron's majority over Le Pen was GREATER than the polls predicted before the shooting.
Similarly: in Germany, the far right's votes have collapsed since the Berlin truck attack before Xmas

nonsense from the Cotswold Hills - I communicate regularly with real French folks - and they and I think that the reason Le Pen won the first round - quite an achievement for a far-right racist party- was exactly because of revulsion with Moslem immigrants who may become terrorists - in future generations if not now.
and none thought the Champs attack would have a huge effect on the election as those who were voting for Le Pen were a limited number of people- flimflanner has to think in long-terms for effects of these things. that nearly 40% of French votes voted for Le Pen is the result of terrorists attacks and the threat they feel to French culture.
Sometimes dem Cotswold Hills and those estate gates do obscure reality -and in UK the anti-Brexit feeling may be dampened and Brexit enhanced as a factor in elections.

It's taking the pressure off Dear Leader who at 10:30pm last night was facing a kicking by the newspapers as she had not only done a U turn on a major part of the May Party manifesto she had announced 4 days before but had just had a prime time interview in which the most charitable view was "she isn't as bad as trump".
As was said after 9/11 - "a good day to bury bad news"

Given the number of possible targets in Manchester - Arndale Centre, Trafford Centre, Old Trafford, Ethiad Stadium, Gay Quarter, the MEN Arena on any other nights (Take That were due there for the remainder of this week) the suggestion by some is that the concert was targeted to get at trump as the murder of "beautiful children" seem to be the only thing that makes him act in the ME.

I am feeling exactly like flanner but there are a bunch of stupid (French/Brits/US, no Belgians thanks) who feel that due to the attacks they have the right to say they are anti muslims.
I dare say less in Belgium because integration has been better than in france where immigrants have been concentrated in some areas or HLM.
And I have no stats but I fear there are inManchester like in BRUXELLES or Nice muslims amongst the dead. Just innocent people blown up like good Christian in a blind attack.
That said I am like PQ too : I would not mind if the plotters of this attack would be shot on the spot.
But again today like yesterday I remember being with my daughter at a Cody Simpson concert. I was one of 10pc of adults. All the rest was 11-15 years girls.

The vigil in Albert Square last night was intensely moving and was a statement by Mancunians and others that this is not a city to be broken by senseless acts carried out by crazed fanatics.
People across the faiths were there and came together to show that this city will always rise above murderers.
