My Photos of Croatia!!

I thought I posted my photo album of Croatia a couple of weeks ago but maybe I didn't. I am not finding it now so I am posting it again. This Fodor's site is quirky lately!

Enjoy the photos!

Cheers!

I saw your pictures; great! If I could ask, do you travel alone and are you American? It sounds like you have several yrs. experience.I plan to visit Croatia alone next June. It'll be my first time. I feel like navigating the country will be easy.I don't plan to do much ahead of time except plan my itinerary. Any advice?

Galaxy, to answer your questions, I am a Canadian living in the US, I sometimes travel alone but prefer traveling with one of my fantastic travel girlfriends or my boyfriend. I was with my boyfriend on this trip.

I spend every free day exploring other countries so I have some experience but I know others with much more!

Croatia is a very easy country to travel in. In the summer the ferries run much more frequently. Traveling by bus is comfortable and quicker but traveling by ferry gives you the opportunity to see many of the 1185 islands up close.

It sounds like you have read my trip reports? If not, you can click on my name and find them.

Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time in Croatia! Believe me, you will want to return. It is spectacular!

Feel free to ask questions!

Cheers!

Thanks eurotraveller. Yes, I've read your trip reports. How far in advance should I book flights from US (Dulles, Washington,DC)to Croatia? Any advice on getting the best rate? I plan to fly in and out of Zagreb, go to Plitvice Pk., Trogir/Split and then Dubrovnik. I probably will only have 2 wks. max.

I am glad everyone has enjoyed the photos!

Galaxy, I am not sure about how to get the best fares from the east coast. I travel stand by on a buddy pass 90% of the time when I travel so I rarely pay for a full fare ticket. Some opions might be to check fares into Venice and take the train to Zagreb. I think Grasshopper might know the answer to this question.

Eurotraveller, Great photos! You'll be singlehandedly responsible for a mad rush to Croatia.

I fly from the West Coast and usually fly to London and then find a cheap flight to wherever I'm going that's closer. www.europebyair.com has $100 flights from London to Zagreb (and Dubrovnik). Pick your cheapest European destination and find out how to get a cheap flight from there.

Do you really want to go to Zagreb? You can take a train from Venice to Trieste (2 hrs.) then a bus to Istria (ie Rovinj, Pula, Rejika). I took a ferry from Rejika to Dubrovnik. It stopped at Split, Hvar and Korcula.

Wow, great pictures! Thanks for sharing, traveller.

How strange you went to Mostar..Even before the war it was not a major tourist destination, although fun to visit, especially because of its bridge, but since the war it is really not very visited at all... (You didn't go to Split and Pula?) How sad to see all those destroyed buildings..At least it is nice that the bridge is back up!

Anyway, seems like you had a great trip. Thanks again.

Thank you all...I will try to fly as you suggested. Should I look for air about 6 months out for the best deals?

I keep trying the europebyair site, and if I put in London to Dub, it always comes up "No flights available" no matter what date I put in Am I doing something wrong? The zagreb to London fare does come up however.

I called europebyair, and they said they don`t fly from London to Dubrovnik. So why do they have it on their interactive map? Disappointing.

Sempronia, I did visit Split. I enjoyed the market and Diocletian's Palace but we were pleased with our decision to stay in Trogir rather than Split. We prefer smaller towns.

As for Mostar, we are interested in history and that is where some very recent history made it's way into our lives. Walking through the cemetary in which most of the headstones were marked with the date of death as 1993 was an extremely emotional experience, not quite on the same level as what I felt when I visited Auschwitz so many years ago but it definitely brought tears to my eyes. I thought it was fascinating and we were happy with that decision as well.

Pula will have to wait until the next trip!

Cheers!
