Hello again everyone!

Day 7)May 28

Once again we started our day with a lovely breakfast from Eric Kayser. Today's breakfast was by far the best of any! I had a croissant, a melon tart, and a pistachio and apricot tart, and Cristina had a croissant and a quiche lorraine. The tarts were melt in your mouth delicious and the croissants were flaky and buttery! Perfect! And of course, as you know by now the Quiche is amazing! LOL!
After our breakfast we went to the market at the top of our street again, because it was open this day (It wasn't open everyday)and the vendors were a little different. This time there were much more antiques and jewlery vendors. We stopped at one stand called Bijoux Clotilde where Cristina bought a necklace, a pair of earrings and a bracelet, and I bought 2 soft pearl bracelets and another pair of soft pearl earrings. Everything goes with everything so that I can mix and match my pieces. Clotilde, the owner of the stand was very friendly and she made most of her pieces herself. They were all gorgeous, but we had already spent 75 euro each so we decided to keep looking!LOL (We're students so 75 euro is a fair amount of money for us lol!) After the market we spent our entire day in the 5th and the 6th. We loved these two arrondissements so much, especially the 6th!! If we ever get back, we would definitely stay there again.
As we were walking around we treated ourselves to another crepe from Creperie Des Arts and then a fry with mayonnaise from Maoz......both delicious!
We just kept walking and walking around all day, and when got hungry again we went back to Petit Hong Kong (we had dined here previously on this trip) and we had some sauteed shrimp, caramel pork and 4 nem.
After we ate we went to Square Viviani and we just grabbed a bench and enjoyed the day/atmosphere/people/arrondissment/bells from Notre Dame/pigeons lol etc etc! It was a nice way to spend an hour.
After that we walked back to our hotel, relaxed a little and as we were about to leave for dinner I got a call on my cell phone from my mother telling me that the airline had called her (I used her card to book) and told her that our flight was delayed by 1 WHOLE DAY!! Initially I was a little upset, because even though I love being away I was anxious to get home to see my boyfriend and to give everyone their souvenirs! But then we realized that we had an extra day of vacation so we decided to make the most of it.
We went down to our hotel lobby to see if we could have a room for an extra night but they were booked solid so we got on the net and booked another room at Hotel 3 Couronnes in the 17th on Rue De L'Arc du Triomphe for 60 euro. We had tried calling Zooms office but because of the time difference they were already closed, and we needed a place to stay.
We left to go have dinner, feeling a little anxious about the news we had just received, especially since the rep from Zoom told my mom there were some "technical difficulties" with one of the planes in their fleet!! LOL!
We had dinner in the 6th at a greek restaurant called Le Paros on Rue St. Severin. They had an 8 euro menu with a few nice choices so we decided it would be a nice place. I had Tzatziki as my appetizer, calamari with rice as my main course and baklava for dessert, and Cristina had Vine leaves as her apetizer, souvlaki for her main course and Baklava for dessert as well. The food was great and you can't beat the price. It was a cute, small restaurant. The waiter tried to ask us out after his shift and once we declined he proceeded to tell us about his "girlfriend" that lives in Canada, funny how she only came into play after his rejection LOL!!! It was fun though, we ended up running into him later on, and he tried AGAIN to ask us out....I don't think his girlfriend would have been too happy! LOL!
After we left the restaurant, two guys started following us, and it was making us a little nervous even though its a busy area so we ducked into a Tunisian bakery and bought a honey donut to try to get them off our tail but when we came out they were waiting for us outside and tried for about 10mins to convince us to either go home with them or give them our phone numbers....some guys just don't get the drift when girls aren't into them!! lol!
We continued walking around and then we headed back to the hotel for some ZZZZZs!

Talk to you soon!

Such a wonderfully entertaining trip report, Layla! You two have definitely got what it takes to get the most out of whatever comes along!

I must say that the possibility of being one day snatched from my seat while dining, then repeatedly heaved toward the ceiling from atop the table had never occurred to me...

Perhaps, in the more mundane establishments like, for example, McDonalds, the prevention of such mayhem is why the tables are bolted to the floor.

Congratulations on so thoroughly enjoying every moment of your trip!

I'm really enjoying your report, Layla! You've given me dining ideas for Paris that I'll use next time. Also will seek out the vendors you mentioned.

I admire your spirit--you'd definitely be a fun and easy person to travel with--the best kind, IMO!!

Zoom Airlines - good to know - if I could only be lucky to be delayed one more day in Paris when I go this September, via Zoom!!!

Ah-ha.. so those are the infamous plate-smashing Greek restaurants in the Latin Quarter that some people here have been warning me against!!! Sounds fun!!

Hello again to everyone!! I am so happy that u guys are enjoying my report, the trip was such a great time that I wasn't sure if I would be able to sum up how much fun it was!
Well,we are getting down to the end of the report...i am sad to see it end because it's so much fun rehashing all of the fun stuff!!!! Thanks again!

Day 8) May 29

Today was supposed to be the day that we had planned to go home, but since our flight was delayed by one day we had an extra day to enjoy the city! Since our hotel was booked solid, we had to head to another hotel for the night. We chose Hotel 3 Couronnes (3 crowns hotel) located in the 17th on Rue De L'Arc Du Triomphe. The room cost 60euro for the two of us...not their normal rate, I think we got it cheaper because it was a last minute booking and they wanted to fill the room. It was in a pretty nice spot, only 2 minutes by foot to the Arc Du Triomphe and Champs Elysees. But location wise I preferred the other hotel because nothing beats the atmosphere of the latin quarter!
Nevertheless it was a small, clean room with a bathroom, TV. phone, minibar, and very very very clean linen that smelled so fresh we were almost tempted to ask the cleaning staff what they used!! So it was quite a change from the other hotel in terms of cleanliness...and they had an ELEVATOR!! So we didn't have to endure the 86 stair climb to our room anymore! LOL!!
I know many people might be asking themselves why Zoom didn't provide us with a place to stay...well they did, but it would have been at the Ibis hotel at Charles De Gaulle airport so we decided to enjoy the city as opposed to sit around and watch the planes come in....even if it cost a little more, it was worth every penny!
Once we had checked in, we walked to Champs Elysees again and walked around for a bit. We had a picnic lunch with some things we bought at Monoprix, Cristina had a Mozzarella and Tomato baguette, and I had a baguette with goat cheese (again!!lol) and we shared a bottle of Coke and a bag of Olive flavoured chips.
After lunch we decided that we needed a nice sweet dessert from Laduree again, it was our last chance to stop by after all!! LOL so we walked over an we bought 6 mini macarons in 6 different flavours: cafe, vanilla, coconut, caramel, raspberry, and pistachio....we also bought a croissant because we wanted to see if they were as good as the ones we had tried at Eric Kayser. Well, needless to say the macarons were INCREDIBLE and the croissant was perfect! After our snack we walked back to the hotel and rested up a bit and got ready to go out for our last night!
We took the RER back to 6th and walked around enjoying the atmosphere, we picked up a fry and mayo at Maoz and walked around, then later on we picked up a crepe at a little crepe stand and then a little later we picked up a vine leave and feta cheese baguette which was amazing!!! but very filling!
We decided it would be nice to take our baguettes down near the water and sit by the Seine and enjoy our last night. As we were sitting and eating, there was a man walking along the water on the opposite side of the river. When he saw us he started yelling some obscene comments at us, which made me a little nervous so I told Cristina that maybe it would be a good idea if we just walked up the stairs to the metro entrance and ate there because I was afraid that he might cross the bridge and come down to where we were and there weren't many people around at all. She didn't seem to be as nervous as I was and said that there's no way he would come across the bridge...well....2 minutes later guess who we saw walking down the steps towards us, yup you guessed it....the crazy weirdo man!! LOL! So as soon as I saw him we got up and luckily a couple walking along the water had just walked in our direction and were not far from us so we quickly walked behind them to the next set of steps to go up to the street. We looked back several times to see if he was following us but he was just standing in the place where we had been sitting! Weird!! But I had a bad gut feeling about him....now I know to always trust my intuition when it comes to things like that! Anyways, it was no biggie, we were alright and we found a new BUSY spot to sit and eat the rest of our sandwhiches near place St. Michel!! When we finished eating we hopped back on the RER and headed back to our hotel for the night. At this point we were both starting to feel a little disappointed that we would have to be leaving tomorrow!!!

Day 9) May 30

We woke up at 6am and got ready to take the RER to CDG for our 12:20pm flight. Once we got off the RER at CDG we were a little confused, but we figured out that to get to terminal 3 you have to take the LINE 5 shuttle bus.
We arrived at terminal 3 and found the Zoom counter easily. Now, the Zoom luggage allowance is 20kg/person of checked luggage and a carry-on of no more than 5kg. When I put my luggage on the scale I was a little nervous because we had bought A LOT of stuff, so we didn't want to be over the luggage limit. So I put my suitcase on the scale and I nearly passed out when it said 19.9kg!!!! How perfect is that!! LOL! Cristina's luggage went on next and hers weighed 19.5kg!!!We were both perfectly within the limits!!
Then we grabbed a seat and waited and waited and waited and waited LOL....then we ate a bit and waited and waited! LOl.....we were supposed to depart at 12:20 but there was another delay so they told us we were supposed to begin boarding at 12:40 and depart at 1:10 but we only ended departing at 1:45. And because of the delay we now had to go first from CDG to Toronto and then from Toronto to Montreal. This was a bit of an aggrivation because we had anticipated a direct flight, but stuff happens and it's out of our control.
As they started playing the first of the in-flight movies we realized that our headsets weren't working and we notified the flight attendant...we later found out that there was a problem for our entire row and we were not able to watch the movies. This was also a little disappointing since the movies help pass the time when you are on a plane. But once again, it's out of our control!
We ended up arriving in Montreal at about 5:45pm and we were happy to finally be off the plane!! The landings that we had in both Toronto and in Montreal were the smoothest landings I have ever experienced....our pilot's name was Andree Sasseville and I must say we were very impressed!!lol

Well now it's over! It was such a great holiday!! I can't wait until I am able to go back!!! Thanks again to all of you for your help and your nice words!!
Until next time!!

Layla

Layla -
I have to commend you for your terrific attitude. So many of us would have gone the route of "What the ***** kind of airline is this! I'll never fly them again!!!!!!!"

We can all learn from you and your positive outlook on everything. Thank you so much for sharing.

And keep traveling - you're good at it!

Best wishes,
Linda

Layla, Wonderful finish. Thanks for putting my mind at ease about Zoom - in the event that does happen, they *do* offer a room for the night, which is good to know if one find themselves a little too limited cash-wise, or cannot find a room to stay in.

Great report!

I'm glad you learned a lesson about following your instincts. I highly recommend you read a book called "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker, just to round out your education on instinct and personal safety. It's invaluable. I wishe I'd read it as a kid instead of at 26.

Hi guys! Thanks for reading I'm glad that you have enjoyed it!

LCBoniti: Thanks! I hope I will continue travelling, and I hope the next trip comes sooner rather than later!!

lmlweb: In regards to Zoom, even though there were some complications I would definitely fly them again if the fare was right, you just can't beat the price! Enjoy your flight, all will go smoothly, worst case scenario is that you get an extra day in your vacation destination!!

Belledame: I'm glad that I learned that lesson (safely) as well! I will always stick to my gut feeling from now on! Thanks for the book recommendation I will check it out!

Thanks again guys!

Buble and Arden in the same show in Paris.
Awesome.
If I had known, I would have been there.
How did you find out about it?

re Zoom- when you book, you can upgrade to an extra leg room seat for about $50.

Hi Layla,

Thanks so much for the trip report! I'm taking lots of notes for my trip in September. I was wondering - what did you think of the Forum des Halles? At first I'd planned on going there, but then heard it was not very safe, that a lot of drugs are sold there, etc. It sounds like the shops would be suited to my budget though. What was your impression?

Thanks!

Hi guys!

Sue4 and ehughes thanks so much for your nice words! I really enjoyed writing the report, it was so much fun!

guaranteed: I found out about the concert a few days before we left because Cristina heard them announce on Entertainment Tonight that Michael Buble would kick off the European leg of his tour in Paris on the 22nd, so we went on line and booked tickets. we had no idea Jann Arden would open for him until we picked up our tickets and saw her name on them. It was the best concert!! Really a great night!

jbjayhawk: In regards to Les Halles, I wasn't very impressed with it...there are a few cute stores, but it's like any other shopping mall in the US or Canada, I never felt unsafe and I never saw anything drug related. It's just a regular shopping mall from what I saw, and the prices are good.
Hope that helps!!

Talk to you soon!
