My email to the Fodors editors.
OK, I realize you need to make money and advertising is the way to do it. I've gotten used to the ads all over the website (talk forums) taking up space, and I understand the need for it. I don't complain about that. I have a very good pop-up stopper and it has successfully removed nearly all the annoying popup ads for sometime. When it doesn't, at least I can simply click on them as they pop up quickly and then they are gone.
But what is this new engineering that has created that horribly annoying new Delta pop up? I guess pop up isn't really the right word. What happens is, every time I click "post a reply" I quickly get the box to type in, but when I start to type nothing happens. I must wait while that Delta ad slowly comes up -- but has already blocked my ability to type anything even before it appears. Then when it is fully up, I can click to get rid of it -- but still that is not instant. It is a rather slow fade before I can start typing my post. I'm not talking minutes here, but rather seconds -- but it is annoying beyond compare. Is that the intention? Let's see how annoying we can make the Delta ad so that people are forced to watch it while they see it slowly fade in and then fade out? If so, you are succeeding.
I also have no idea how you have managed to over ride what until now has been a totally successful popup stopper, but surely that is your intention. I post a lot on the forums as any regulars can attest. Now it has forced me to thing twice about making any comment, because it is a sort of "ordeal" to do so. Perhaps that is also your intention -- to make it harder for people to post responses?

Hi Patrick, I wish I knew what type of a popup barrier I have on my computer because whatever it is I never get popup ads including the Delta one that is driving you crazy. What a pain for you..that would discourage me from attempting to type a post also. Maybe somebody here can offer you a solution. Take care!

To be honest, I wasn't being totally honest in my email to the editors. I have had NO popups at all since installing the popup blocker over a year ago. When others complained here about other popups, I had no idea what they were talking about. This is a new one, and it only appears when I hit "post my reply" as it just did now. I suspect it may be slow for me because my popup blocker is trying hard to over ride it, but doesn't quite make it, but I have no way of knowing if that is true or not.

I'm sure that most anyone having this problem is still using IE. Microsoft hasn't updated IE's features in years. They're too busy solving all of its the security glitches. Definitely switch to Firefox. Its far superior, free and only takes a couple of minutes to install. Also, second the advice for Zone Alarm Pro. For protecting your computer, its the best firewall/pop up blocker on the market.

OK, after much urging, I have now switched to Firefox. Yes that pop up is gone. Now if I can just figure out how to change the settings on Firefox so I can actually read what's here, I'll be happier. Right now all this looks like a typewriter that badly needs a new ribbon.

I'm on an old mac, and a REALLY old version of Netscape (long story, don't ask) w/o any pop-up blocker - but I don't get Delta, don't get pop-ups, and don't get anything that fades away before I can post.
Sure hope they don't respond to your e-mail by "fixing" things. Most of the time their fixes just screw things up . . . . .

Hmm. I guess with any program you've got a lot of learning to do. Now with Firefox, I couldn't figure out how to open a second window to run two programs at once. Double clicking the desktop icon does nothing, as well as right clicking and hitting open. Finally I closed the Fodors windown running on Firefox, but then couldn't open any window at all for Firefox, even though I had already set it as default browser. So I had to reopen IE to get anything at all on my screen beyond a desktop. I suppose once again you have to be more savy that I am to operate this Firefox program.

OK, I guess I passed that obstacle. Despite clicking on my Webroot Spyware which identified Firefox to always allow it, it was still apparently blocking it. So when I disconnect my spyware then Firefox works. Does that mean I can't use my spyware or do I have to download a new one that is compatible?

Patrick,
I run both Spy Sweeper and Firefox, so that shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps something went wrong in the download/install process. Try downloading and installing Firefox again. Make sure you set Spy Sweeper to allow Firefox.
Also, if you wish to be on two web sites at the same time, you use the tab feature. Just to up to File, then click on new tab. This will open a new window for you.

Hmm. OK, I do that, but it takes away the site I'm on and replaces it with a new one. How do I keep the other one running, but add a second site at the same time?
I've just tried what you say twice. When I did it from here, I lost Fodors which was replaced with another site. When I hit new tab and enterd Fodors, I lost that site.
Meanwhile I've turned Spyware back on, we'll see. Maybe the fact that I turned the computer off and restarted has helped with the addition of the new program.
