"Must see's" and prices in Iceland

My husband and I will be taking a trip to Iceland in June and are trying to determine our budget. We really do not know how much daily expenses will be (bed & breakfast or guesthouse, food, transportation). We are also not sure how long it would take to do a general tour of the major scenic beauties of Southern Iceland. Any advice on prices, how to cut corners, and major scenic "must see's" would be appreciated. Also, what kinds of sleeping accomodations are most prevalent, and what type of vehicle should be rented?
Just a little bit about us to help out: we enjoy scenery, hikes, driving anywhere on the spur of the moment, and unique cultural experiences (nothing terribly "touristy&quot. Thank you for all your help.

This is weird. I cannot find my posting on the Europe forum. I can only find it on my page. I am hoping if I post this, it will show up where it is supposed to be.

HI amcquiggan,

I've topped my trip report as well, which also lists some prices and must sees. We were there for six days and I wished we'd had at least one more, but we did cover a lot of area.

Please feel free to ask questions!

For a bit more reading, go to http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1278237

(It's "lost" as far as the search function is concerned, but it's still here.)

Cutting corners for me involved supermarket shopping, picnics, and hot dogs for lunch! (Plus *blush* a McDonald's visit for the old-style apple pies.)

Have a lovely trip; Iceland is really special!
