mike,
I think you'll agree that this is a pretty uncomon request. I would think your best bet would be to contact your hotel. Hotels can provide TONS of information when people take the time to ask. That is part of their job.

I have never shopped there, but a quick web search turned up the Musikhaus Hieber near the Cathedral, which seems to be one of the largest music retailers.

Altough I wouldn't call it a cd-specialty store, you can find a nice selection of classical cds at Ludwig-Beck on the NE corner of Marienplatz.
re sheet music, ene of my colleagues actually searches out sheet music in the US when she travels for business, because she claims it is too expensive here in Munich. Sorry, but don't know of any particular store names and she is one a two-week holiday now, so I cannot ask her

I agree trhat is a very good music store. You really can't miss it. Go from the Stachus (Karlsplatz, where all the street cars converge), as yolu face the fountain to the left past the Moevenpick Restaurant. Close by is an old tower attached to a shopping complex. That is the Maxburg. In it is the CD store.
