Hi, even with the museum pass you may still find rather long lines at some museums - if we tried to enter at opening time at the Orsay or anytime at l'Orangerie. Also remember that the Louvre is open Monday while the Orsay is closed when scheduling your visits.

mrk, your trip is over by now, but I must comment on the advice you were given. Those travelers recommending extensive taxi travel in Paris ought to have their heads examined. If sitting in bumper to bumper traffic is your sightseeing cup of tea, grab a cab. In my 12 visits to Paris I have never used a taxi!!! You can sit in traffic using the regular city buses and for a lot less money. The Metro, combined with walking, is the way to go.

Hello...I'm going to Paris later this month, and I have a few transportation questions.
Are buses and metro the same system in Paris? If I purchase a caret of tickets can I use them on both? How much does a caret cost?

I'm going to be there Tue-Fri. We will be coming and going from CDG. We plan to take the bus and ride around, to do some economical siteseeing.

Carnet tickets can be used on all RATP - public transit - modes within Paris proper (Zones 1-2) plus anywhere the Métro goes in Zone 3. The 10-pack costs €10,90.

If you use the train or get on a bus more than 4 times in a day, a daily Mobilis pass is a better deal at €5,50.

If you will use the train or get on a bus more than 14 times all the time you are there, get a Carte Orange instead. Present a 1" square ID photo when you buy the card. If you want to ride the train from CDG to the city and back, get a 5-zone Carte Orange, otherwise 2 zones will do. A 5-zone will get you to Versailles and Disneyland as well.

dunno about my head, but my eyes need examining. You are right, johnnydread1, this thread dates back to 2005. Oh well, people seem to be getting some use.

aimeekm, the carnet of tickets is valid on the RER, the metro and the bus, within the Paris core, but there is a slight catch. You can 'transfer' between lines of the metro on one and the same ticket, but you cannot do so between the bus and the metro, or between the bus and another bus. If you plan to use a lot of buses, then the carte orange or mobilis might be a good way to go.

Note: when using carnet tickets on the RER, be sure to keep your ticket until AFTER YOU EXIT the RER. DO NOT THROW IT AWAY after passing the entrance turnstile.

Note also that special pricing applies for travel outside the Paris core. For example, travel on the RER between CDG and the core cannot be done on an ordinary carnet ticket, nor can it be done with a Mobilis pass, only with a specially priced RER ticket, or a Paris Visite or Carte Orange that covers the relevant zones.

At present the carnet is listed on ratp.fr as being € 10.90 for 10 tickets. This easily beats single ticket pricing at €1.40 each.

I am leaving for Paris shortly and will be there on Wednesday and Thursday. I want to only visit the Louvre - are the lines for tickets horrible? Do you have to pay extra for a guide?Do you need tickets to see Notre Dame Cathedral?
