Munich/Vienna/Prague
Flying into Munich out of Prague first week in May. Figuring to spend 3 nigts in MUC 2 in Vie and 4 in PRG. How should we travel between cities train or car rental? I am unable to find prices for international train travel using the german and austrian railway web sites. Can anyone help me out here. Thanks

Hello, Brian,
I can help you out with the Vienna/Prague leg. There were several trains throughout the day with the earliest at 6:55 a.m. It cost us around $100.00 each for a round trip ticket on second class. The trip took about 4.5 hours. The train was very comfortable, we had reserved seats and found 1st class would have been unnecessary.
I looked for information at the Eurorail website. I waited to book our seats until we arrived in Vienna. We had no problem finding a seat.
Good luck!

Anyone else with info on the other leg of Brian's trip?
You will need more time in Vienna than 2 days. I would do 3 in Vienna and 3 in Prague. If you rent a car, be sure you can it to Czech Republic. If you go deep enough into German rail site, you can get prices. I went from Vienna to Krakow for about $40 second class, using the compartment cars which I think are preferable to open seating. You will enjoy all 3 cities. They are very different and all interesting in their own ways. If you need hotels, try nethotels.com for all three. It has events schedules as well. I'm envious!

Hi, Linda,
It is always a pleasure to see your posts on Eastern Europe. You were a great help to me when I started my Vienna/Prague planning many months ago.
In fact, I think I will revisit your website again. We thoroughly enjoyed both cities.
To help ease the pain of being back from this wonderful journey, I am already planning our next trip. I think we will be going to Budapest, Venice, Croatia, and Poland. I would be very interested in your ideas on Krakow. I have found a few
websites and been enjoying Virtual Tourist for a looksee. It does look beautiful!
Thank you again,
Gloria

Thanks, Gloria. Glad to help. Krakow is much smaller but nice. Wawel Castle & area is walking distance from Old Town. The Salt Mines are on the outskirts and have a cathedral in the Mines. You have to go to Zakopane (resort village in Tatras Mountains about 2 hour bus ride south--faster than train). It is finalist for Winter Olympics. A visit to Auschwitz/Birkenau Concentration Camps (1 hour west) is worth the trip. Also, the small town with the Black Madonna is near there but I didn't have time. Hope you consider the Fleps for B&B in Budapest as they are nice. Krakow has nice crystal, amber, wooden toys and games.
