Munich-Salzburg-Prague itinerary help
Hello! Our kids are meeting us after we are done taking a river cruise and I am working on the itinerary with the kids (adults).
Here are my questions: Granted if time were not an issue we would of course extend this and spend 3 days in each city - it's just not possible. Have to maneuver around their professional schedules.
1) Am I cutting Munich short? After they arrive on Day 1 we will have a few hours at best as they traveled from the US and will be tired. Day 2 full day there but we want to do Dachau. Then we can do morning of Day 3 in Munich. Is this enough? What are the must sees in Munich?"
2) I think Salzburg in 1.5 days is ok. Again, more is better I know. My daughter really wants to do the Sound of Music tour.
3) Prague - it's a good distance and will take time but not sure if there is another city that is better to go to?? We were going to drive straight from Salzburg to Prague (5 hours I think??). But going from Prague back to Munich we have 2 stops so I feel like we will get to see things on that last day. (I've looked into changing flights out of Prague - too expensive...unless I want to do 2 layovers and double the travel time. I'll be exhausted at the end of this trip and that might break me! haha.)
I've attached a calendar in case that is easier to see! THANK YOU!!
- Day 1 - about 1pm all will be there....arrive in Munich and half of Day 1 and all Day 2. Doing walk around city (day 1) and Dachau (day 2) with some extra time on Day 2 after Dachau.
- Taking train to Salzburg on morning of Day 3 - stay day 4. Sound of Music tour on Day 4 which I think we will see a lot of the city during this.
- Going to Prague on Day 5 (arrive 1:30pm ish) - stay day 6 and Day 7. Do city tour, Prague Castle.
- Day 8 - Prague to Munich via SideTrip (so we will have 2 stops) and then staying at airport hotel as we fly out early on Day 9. On side trip will stop at Karlstejn Castle and Cesky Krumlov.

This trip would be way too fast paced for me. YMMV.
There’s a LOT to see in Munich. Whether those things would be of interest to you and your family, I can’t say. You’ll have to do some research to figure that out. My recommendation is to get a decent guidebook or go to your local library to check some out.
Many of us find a visit to a concentration camp deeply meaningful. And many of us also find such visits emotionally draining, so our plans for the rest of a day on which we visit a camp are often limited to something like a long walk and relaxing meal.
If you do decide to include Prague on this trip, must you return to Munich? Can you fly out of Prague instead?
Do consider taking trains instead of renting a car.

All depends on what you are interested in.
In and around Munich are tons of museums (some 30, among them many art galeries, a huge science and technology museum, a Nazi documentation center, a Jewish museum, a Egypt museum.....) and castles (at least 5), as well as interesting churches and civil buildings.
I can find neither trains nor buses arriving at Prague at 13.30
Krumlow is along the itinerary from Salzburg to Prague, but far away from the Prague - Munich itinerary
"Prague - it's a good distance and will take time but not sure if there is another city that is better to go to?"
There are tons of other cities which would be easier to reach (in the case you really don't want to visit Munich and surroundings). But once again, it's a question of your interests.

Too expensive to change flight out of Prague - we already looked at that option. We don't mind being fast paced. We thrive on that over downtime. We aren't renting a car but rather using SideTrip / DayTrip service so transportation will be by car - but not one we rent. Thank you for your input. Doing more research.
