Munich or Salzburg or Linz, or More Vienna

Greetings,

I am going to a conference in Graz in January, and will have 3 days after for recreation. I know I want to have at least a day in Vienna (which I have already been to), and am wondering if it would be worth it to visit Salzburg, Linz or Munich, or should I just spend the extra time in Vienna? I would be either flying or taking the train.

My primary interests are art, history and music. Thanks!

You can't go wrong with any of your choices, but I may do 2 days Vienna and a day trip to Salzburg. Come back another time and do Vienna longer and definitely spend a few days in Munich!

Either do all in Vienna or as Steve said, 2 days in Vienna and 1 in Salzburg. Save Munich for another time. (You'll probably also want to spend more time in Vienna and Salzburg once you've seen them.)

Linz is the third biggest city in Austria (after Vienna and Graz), but it is mainly industrial.

Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia are not so far from Graz. Ljubljana and Zagreb are closer than Munich and Salzburg.

I live in Vienna (for past 15 months) and before then lived in Munich, and would support the others view but perhaps go more for the stay in Vienna for whole time. With your interests there is a lot in Vienna and it still takes 3-4 hours to Salzburg (0820 Intercity, arriving Salzburg 1148), so hassle factor for staying there one night is I think too high and frankly you will only have 4 hours of daylight if you get the train above). If you want a change of scenery, hire a car and go down the Wachau and see Krems, Durnstein and maybe go as far as Melk - lovely trip and pretty relaxing as traffic is not bad. Buy some very well priced wine on the way. Or take a day trip to Baden (less than an hour by train).
