Munich in December

I have the opportunity to stop in Munich for three nights in December and I am looking for recommendations for a reasonable (3 or 4 star) hotel close to must sees. I would also love to get an idea of "not to miss" sites/day trips. I can walk, have no fear of trains, even brave enough to drive if need be. Thanks!

Fay

Check out Bensbaurenhof.com for hotel ideas in Munich.

Must see in December is the "Christmas Markets" (but I bet you knew that already

I was in Munich in November two years ago and we stayed in Hotel Uhland - a nice, family-run hotel - http://www.hotel-uhland.de/. It's about 10 minutes walk from the main train station and about 20 minutes walk from the city centre. It's very close to the beer festival site which had a huge Christmas Fair at that time. The city centre also has a Christmas fair running.

We were only there two days so we only managed to see the city centre, had a long tour of the Residenz and spend one day in Neuschwanstein - very picturesque in the snow.
