When you get off the S-Bahn in Dachau, the bus is right there waiting to take you. No problem at all. I imagine that most of the people on your train will also be going to the camp.
Dachau camp is NOT to be missed. I strongly suggest you do some research on Dachau before you go. It will make the experience even more memorable.
While on the bus in Dachau, pay attention to the traffic lights. The lights have two colors, red and yellow. If neither light is showing, it is GO!!!! Works there, but probably wouldn't work in the United States due to the very poor driving habits we have. The Germans KNOW how to drive!

Yes, an easy day trip using public transportation. If you have the Rick Steve's guide book, he lays it out perfectly.
Here are some photos from Dachau:

Agree with steve.
The drive is very simple from the heart of Munich.
It is a moving experience and should not be missed. The thing about going to the town as steve mentioned is worth doing; as you close your eyes, try to imagine, as hard as that may be, that there was town going about their business while the horrors of the Nazis was occuring right there!
I'm Jewish but my husband is not and he was so so moved by the experience( but yes I was too). Walk the entire grounds after you leave the museum part.
