Munich Apt Car Rental-Anyone Done So Lately?-Problems/Tips?

Have decided to pick up a car at MUC and will return there rather than to the downtown location (no extra chg either way)...
I understand MUC has some sort of consolidated car rental center and wondered if anyone has used it.

Is it pretty straight forward? Any problems?

I notice there is a petrol station nearby and wondered if anyone had re-fueled there.

Thanks for any info.

We rented from Europcar at MUC a couple of months ago. The rental facility was a short walk outside the terminal and across a small plaza; very easy to find. Getting out of the airport was easy as well. We chose to return the car downtown and, after doing so, I was wishing we'd picked the airport instead (problem was our documentation included the wrong return address, leading to some confusion and unnecessary laps around the train station).

Thanks for your reply. Am actually going to be taking the night train from Munich to Venice and although somewhat familiar with the area around the main station (you know, the one a lot of people think is "seedy" because it has kebab places and a sex store!!!) and there is a host of discussions about finding that rental car return garage (on TA among other places) so i decided it is just easier to do this back at the airport and take the S-bahn into town.

I very much appreciate your informative reply since it kinda confirms my suspicions...

Dukey, I'm not certain of this, but I think the S-bahn station and the car rental facility are pretty close together. We didn't go directly between the two, but I recall walking across that small, covered plaza to get from the terminal to the rental cars and then (a week later) walking back across that plaza to get from the S-bahn to the terminal.

Our rental agreement had the return address at the train station, but it turns out they don't generally accept returns there. We eventually found the office there, but then they wanted us to take it somewhere else a block or two away.

I didn't find the area around the train station "seedy." A little eclectic, maybe. We stayed right in that area and walked all around it; never felt unsafe.

Well, OI am glad to hear I am not the ONLY person who doesn't think the area around the train station is "seedy."

i still think it is because of that sex store..of course that HUGE one as you walk toward the Marienplatz and your Christmas market ecstasy experience never ever gets mentioned..perhaps they have special Christmas items there, too.

Anyway, thanks for your replies..they have helped a great deal.

Hi; In September, we picked up and returned our car at MUC. It's a 'bit' of a walk from Customs, but very straight forward. We took the s-bahn into Munich and I think it was about 35euro R/T. We did spend another 3euros to use public transportation in Munich, but never used it. Never considered any area 'seedy'. ms_go is right. The car rental and the s-bahn are close. Richard

Oh; The petro station is just outside the airport. I don't think you can miss it. We did fill up a few miles before the airport. Richard

Dukey, seedy LMAO . You want seedy, you need to go elsewhere. Those camper vans at Ingolstädter street always seemed kind of seedy to me, but then, when we were younger, we were "cruising" up and down there, just watching. ;-)

Ah, times have changed.

Hi Dukey,

We just returned from Munich last week. Picked up and dropped off the rental car at the airport. Couldn't be any easier. Just follow the signs for rental car returns. ALL rental car returns go here. Simple.
We stopped in Hallbergmoos, right by the airport, to refuel. I think it was one exit before the airport.
