Munich and Lucerne Fall 2026
we are trying to plan a trip to take our three daughters and their husbands to Munich for four nights to take in Oktoberfest starting the last weekend of September. Then we would head to Lucerne for three or four nights. We would appreciate any advice for hotels in Munich since that is the first thing we need to plan. We are willing to take train rides to the Oktoberfest grounds since we feel hotels within walking distance would be very expensive. Later, I might be asking for recommendations on things to do in or near Munich and then Lucerne. Does anyone have any Munich hotel recommendations?
Thanks

Hi dpd,
I just spent weeks looking at prices for Munich hotels for early Oct 2026 for my nephew & his fiancee, and me, when they'll be in town for the O'fest.
The ones I like that are central have been about 1,000 more overall (for 3 nights) than hotels a little farther away. I'd suggest you look at the Ost railroad station, as there are nice hotels there that are not expensive for that time, and of course it's a good location for transportation.
I eventually decided on the Hotel Miano at Munich Pasing. I like the location, right at a big mall and across from the Pasing station. The hotel only offers croissants and coffee for breakfast, but you can get breakfast at the Edeka grocery store in the mall, same building as the hotel, and charge it to the room. I also looked at the transportation:
To HBF 10 mins, various trains
To Theresienwiese, about 30 minutes, no direct train, so train to HBF or Hackerbrücke and walk, or change trains
To Marienplatz, 15 minutes, various trains
Have fun as you plan,

Thank you very much for the quick response. I quickly went to that hotels website and saw a price of $411 and $450 per night. Of course cost is important since I am paying for four rooms. Is this rate close to what you were able to get?

Hi again,
I got 2 rooms for 3 nights for 1,397€. So I guess it's more like 232€ per night per room.
Was that price for all 4 rooms per nignt? Were you looking at the Hotel Miano at Munich Pasing? There is a Hotel Mio by Amano near Sendlinger Tor, and I often confuse the two (apologies if I assume you have the same brain glitch I get).

It may have something to do with the day of the week. Thursday-Friday-Saturday hotel rates are usually much higher than Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday.
I do not know about Sundays. Some hotels drop their Sunday rates drastically; some do not.

I live in Munich and I really can recommend this 2 hotels:
https://www.hotel-bb.com/de/hotel/muenchen-moosach?
or
https://harrys-home.com
Both are directly on the train-station, where the S 1 from the airport also stops. Moosach is a very safe suburb, but there are lots of shops and restaurants around. To go to the center of Munich you'll have a lot of possibility, starting directtly at the hotels:
S-Bahn (train), U-Bahn (Metro), Tram and Bus. It is only a 15 minutes ride.

Try the "Adina Apartment Hotel Munich" and the "Residence Inn by Marriott Munich Ostbahnhof", both are near the ost bahnhof.
Breakfast at Adina is an additional cost, while breakfast is usually included in the Marriott Residence Inn's room rate. So, take that into account.
Look up Residence Inn's rates on Marriott's official website, and then call its USA customer service phone number to book. If you are a Marriott member and a senior, ask for senior discount rate. Your family when booked together will receive the same senior discount too.

"Someone suggested that that would be good for a second destination""
There are about hunderts of destinations possible. So what should be recommend´? We don't know you, we don't know your interests, your travel style, we even don't know where you live. So how should we be able to tell you what would be interesting for you?

Have been to Munich a few times but only once for the Oktoberfest fest when I was young. Remember 3 liters of beer, frites, bratwurst, music and lots of people. Suspect you are not going to spend all 3 days at the fest. Many other things to do in the area. Is your return flight from Munich?
