My connection here is a bit hit-and-miss -- a lot more miss than hit last night. At all times there seem to be people in the lobby with their portables, because the signal in their room is too weak or unstable. Hence, I was not able to pick up and respond to recommendations from noe847 and kkukura, for which I now say thanks.
Today we did the Residenz and the treasury. In another sense, they did us. So many sets of rooms; so many objects to admire or dislike; so much baroque and rococo; so many references to a history of which we have only rudimentary awareness. God, it was tiring! Now I am more sure than ever that beauty lies in simple line rather than in elaboration.
For lunch, as we were near it, we tried Dallmayr. Stylish, lovely food, great service, absurdly expensive. We paid as much for a light snack as we paid for dinner on Saturday. But we put it down as an experience rather than as eating, and didn't mind.
Walked a fair bit; had alfresco drinks (the forecast showers didn't happen); the feet weren't up to taking us far for dinner, so we went again to Flemings, and liked it again -- they had a selection of good French cheeses, including some of our favourites, properly ripe and served at room temperature.
Tomorrow, because we are already footsore, we will take to the trams, and might eat dinner more than 100 metres away from our base.
