Mundaka?
Hi, I see a year or two old post about how Mundaka has become run-down. My fiance and I are looking to stay about 3 or 4 nights in a surfing town. Has anyone been there lately and have some advice, and, also, any other ideas for a place to stay nearby and near the beach? Thanks,

Not sure if I would say Mundaka is run down. It is still slated to hold the Billabong World Pro Championships in October 2006 and the Urdaibai biosphere is incredibly beautiful. How much are you looking to spend?

There's nothing wrong with Mundaka, it's just very popular and busy.
There are several nice properties in the area that fit nicely within your budget.
Check out Casa Rural Artiketxe and Kasa Barri in Bermeo. Iturbe is in the village of Busturia on the way to Gernika.
The Hotel Atalaya and Hotel El Puerto are both in Mudaka (http://www.secretplaces.com/sp/1/pro...ls/Vizcaya.asp).

Across the inlet between the beaches of Laida and Laga there is the Hotel Gametxo: http://www.hotelgametxo.com/index.htm. If you are going to be a few days, they rent out apartments with kitchens that might be nice.
Also, fyi Laga has some good surfing and you'll avoid all the surfers of the Bilbao area.
