Thought I'd do a little resurrecting on this thread and give my list to kick it all off again.
1) Roman Holiday:- Rome (obviously) but really who could resist the beautiful, gamine Audrey Hepburn
2) To Catch a Thief:- Riviera and Grace Kelly at her absolute most knock-out, sexy, iconic self.
3) Shallow Grave:- Edinburgh... the blackest of black humour.
4) The Ladykillers:- London... specifically post-war London still with huge Luftwaffe made building sites.
5) The Third Man:- Vienna has never been filmed so darkly and scarily, Orson Welles was no never malevolent.

Great films in Europe all, and I can think of a dozen more...

Ladybug,

In your original post, didn't you mean Beef Wellington? I seem to remember a Duke Ellington. Oh, well.

Nobody mentioned IF IT'S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE BELGIUM. Pretty good movie, and certainly gives one pause about "tours".

Also heartily agree with DAY OF THE JACKEL, TO CATCH A THIEF and THE THIRD MAN. Fortunately, we have all of these on tape and can view at our leisure.

I saw TEA WITH MUSSOLINI on an airplane. I thought Cher looked she had been embalmed. A real snoozer.

One final addition, IS PARIS BURNING with Orson Welles. The book is even better.

Count Basie

I really like the Accidental Tourist. I also second Mediterraneo. You will want to be on a Greek island after watching it. Also, Gosford Park is interesting. Takes place in England just before WWII. I also second Before Sunrise. And The Third Man takes place in Vienna. It's in black and white and stars orson welles.
