Would be great if can have suggestions to select Mount Titlis OR Mount Pilatus for a day trip in LUCERN - want to cover Lake Lucern as well -

From where will you be doing the day trip ? If you are traveling from Interlaken area for a day trip, would suggest that you do Mt Pilatus (for which the round trip starts and ends at Luzern); that way you can also cover Lake Luzern. Mt Titlis is a bit further away from Luzern, so if you choose Titlis, I doubt if you can also visit Luzern the same day. Depends upon where you are traveling from.

I find it hard to believe that you will do a daytrip from Geneva to Luzern and one of the mountains. I think the distances are way too much to make it possible as a day trip. If I understand you correctly, you plan to leave Geneva early in the morning for this trip, and return to Geneva by night ? Would not suggest that you try it.

1. Leaving Geneva early in the morning
2. Targeting to reach Luzern by 9.30AM
3. Mount Pilatus Or Mount Titlis
Thinking more towards Mount Pilatus
Luzern->Alpnachstad (Boat + Cog Rail) -> Pilatus Kulm -> Kriens -> Luzern
Any Tip for this round trip?
4. Targeting to leave Luzern by 4.30PM for Interlaken / Grindelwald

Hi HKumar,

You will have to leave Geneva at 06.14 to arrive in Luzern at 09.05. The next connection leaves Geneva at 06.45 and arrives at 09.56.

That really doesn't seem like much of a vacation to me!

However, this is another of those plans that I just don't like. I would really take it slower, stay longer, and try to memorize the views. Otherwise, you may be one of those travellers who insisted that there is no lake at Luzern . . . honestly, someone said that.

Would completely agree with swandav. If you must go to Luzern as a day-trip, then avoid going up either Pilatus or Titlis. Titlis is of course some distance away, and it would probably be night by the time you are back to Luzern. Even if you went up to Pilatus starting at 10am, it would be atleast 5pm by the time you return (unless you were running a marathon).

Better to spend your time taking a short lake cruise on Lake Luzern, roaming around the quaint old town area of Luzern, and just sitting by the lakefront soaking in the views. The 6 hours that you have allocated will be gone in a flash. You will not even have time for the wonderful Transport Museum or the Rosengart/Picasso Museum. You should however, visit the Lion Monument, and try climbing up the City Wall. No matter what you do, 6 hours is not enough for Luzern itself, much less for Pilatus and back !

Just want to make sure there are two routes to get to Luzern from Geneva. One fast via Bern and the other slow but scenary via Zweisimmen etc (aka gloden pass). I would certainly choose the slow one. One of the best train rides in the world.

I agree this is a bit much for one day. On our last visit we stayed in Luzern and did both the Titlis and Pilatus excursions. We liked Pilatus better, by far, even though it is a few thousand feet shorter (you can tell only by the signs). A nice boat ride in a classic steamer on a beautiful lake, followed by a cogwheel rail ride up the mountain, nice facilities at the top, including a musician, cable cars back down, and a short bus ride back to the center of Luzern.

I just wouldn't want to bypass all the other lovely sights in Luzern.

I'd skip Geneva; when we stayed there in May it was dirty and noisy, and didn't even seem like a part of Switzerland.
